Hmmm,
That's not a bookend. That's Pete writing his latest article on the Surface Pro. If you look closely at his hands you can see him making the MVVM sign. He's probably saying "Use the MVVM"

Is anyone watching the MSbuild with the paired programming example where the two devs are looking at the code remotely and editing it with each other and running?
Does anyone want to do that? More than once in a lifetime, maybe? \
dev answer: NO!!!

I have not tried it. But I have seen it work quite fine when the two devs are equally strong, and are generally in synch.
But two random devs paired? I have my doubts.

I'm kidding, but I'm really, really serious.
Code is often very opinionated. And opinionated code can be very good. If the dev is good.
And there are many different ways to do the same thing which are neither better nor worse.
What I think it would lead to -- as I've seen -- is one dev basically saying, "ok we do it this way"
and the other dev just nodding and going along.*
EDIT*
And I'm not opposed to using this for code review, code explanation, etc.
And I'm not against it as a design review, etc.
I'm just saying, live coding/typing, no thanks.

It can happen. These two were, and I would not call it super-exceptional. And they were no just in synch, they were really good. That was a tad exceptional, purrhaps.

If this was the demo where one dev pretended to ask for help from his manager then I thought it could be useful on large teams/projects. It wasn't pair programming, but a way to get assistance without sharing a desktop
(BTW, true pair programming is a horror.)

This one (example) was collaborative (another bingo buzzword) where two devs worked together (aka paired programming).
I'm being a bit jaded about it all because I can see how this could be neat with an experienced dev lending a hand, etc. but it just seems like these dog and pony shows try to push that old "paired-programming" paradigm a lot. Which never seemed to work out like someone hoped it might (Beck).
Again, I'm being jaded because I think if my best friend who I've known since elementary school new how to program we could actually do paired programming and do some cool stuff. But for the 99.9% of devs out there it seems more like this would be used in a PHB (http://dilbert.com/strip/1995-05-29^) fashion.

It has become glaringly apparent that me and late nights are no longer friends. We were out till around 2am last night/this morning. I am now a train wreck with a headache.
I guess you get out of practice... 9pm is considered a late night in LA.

I know the feeling. The days when I could stay up all night and still go to work the next day are long past me. Now I'm happily tucked into bed by 11 or 12 ish ... and up at 5 or 6 ready for the day.
It's a sign of maturity, not age I fervently hope...

His was parsing everything into a string and yes that is faster than DOM parsing. In that case he would've been the Master-Pair-Programmer had I ever had to be paired with him.
