I've bought mostly cheap five Port ones and had only one fail, but I also went all spendy for a sixteen Port one a while back, which wasn't too expensive. I think it even has some firewall functionality.

I'll have to see what it is when I get home.

Amazon tells me it's a
NETGEAR ProSafe Ethernet Switch (GS116NA)

I've had really good luck with these at work. Although they are getting more plastic in the construction as of late....

Definitely go with a consumer model like you're looking at, no matter how cheap a used/on sale rackmount one might look. I'll have obnoxiously loud fans, probably with no control since it's designed to go into an oven where they always need to be running.

I've purchased them from Ebay - used or new. They work fine and are cheaper than brand new. I bought 24 port / 48 port and 8 port used switches for very reasonable prices. They've been working fine for years.

Since I am not at liberty to make a Weird and Wonderful post, I will rant here instead.

Apart from the 100 KLOC, there are some real "hidden" gems here. Apparently a series of callbacks go to 27 calls deep. And D'Oh! | :doh:

those were JavaScript Promise "then" callbacks invoking another promise.

No one taught them to return the promise.
