Yesterday, one of the team phoned my office and said something to me that I had been waiting for a long time...well 19 months since I joined, but not that I'm counting.
I headed outside and across the bridge to one of the other platforms, headed up to the helideck and looked out over the water towards to Iran, there was a massive level of activity in the water over a large area, easily at least a few km2.
There were whale sharks lounging around, there where also whales (not sure what species) clearly rising out of the water and shoals of fish manically moving around, jumping etc. Watching and listening to the sounds of the blow, the sun and calmness of the Arabian Gulf and just getting to see nature unfold in front of you.
Just to top it all off, I went down for my lunch just after this and it was nice juicy steak.....nom nom nom.
Overall a good day...

My work is horrible with bad traffic, bad bosses and tons of junk code.

We are still working towards transition, and moving to the new company in July 2017.
Not much info around contracts or T&Cs yet, so just getting on with things rather than letting it bother me! All that stuff will come in due course...

For my money, you can't beat watching nature be nature. Some amazing flora and fauna we have on this planet, and simply experiencing it is sublime.
When my wife and I travel, she always wants to see all of the tat that us worthless humans have built. I want to see all the wonderful creations Mother Nature has produced.
I envy you and what you were able to experience. Please do share pictures if you were able to take any.

I once had jury duty in San Diego CA. The case was a high profile case, so there were some 100 jurors in the selection pool, including me. We broke for lunch, and I went across the street for a sandwich.
Now, I thought I went back to the same building, but it turns out there are two nearly identical court buildings, and I went in the wrong one. Up the elevator to the appropriate floor, and "where's the court room???"
It took probably 15 minutes to get directions, go back down, walk over to the correct building, go up the elevator, and enter the court room, at this point now in session again doing jury selection.
Needless to say, the judge was annoyed and threatened to hold me in contempt. I was very humble, hand wringing apologetic (very unusual for me!) and he dismissed me from the case.
So I learned another way to get out of jury duty.
I despise jury duty. A "jury of one's peers" is a joke, I do not believe it is my "civil duty", and I also believe I should be able to avoid jury duty on religious grounds -- I don't want that karma!
Incidentally, my only other case was a medical lawsuit. The lawyers had a Q&A period before selecting jurors, in which I made the comment "How are you going to prove malpractice, your client looks totally healthy?" I was dismissed (in fact, they were saving their last dismissal for me) before my toosh hit the juror seat.

It's funny because I don't have a sense of direction. I can easily get lost. If you leave me in the middle of the city (especially big cities) then I'm like this: [^]
And that's my superpower.. I'm always lost.
