I had multiple data lines (3) at home from a particular vendor,Vendor1.
Since it's a low speed internet , I had to take multiple connections and share it between different machines.
Now other vendors are in town providing high speed connections. I took a new high speed connection from a new vendor , Vendor2.
Now as you see it got highly redundant (3 + 1) and I was wasting money paying the bills for the old 3 connections.
The good thing about Vendor1 is, any complaints you raise, its' fixed in couple of hours. The service guys are at your doors instantly. Vendor2 , on the other hand is more like a start up. The speeds are great, but on weekends nobody picks up a call. Poor support.
Okay getting to the deal. I called up Vendor1, explained the situation & said I wanted to cancel all the 3 lines they provide. I'm a decade old "loyal" customer and they could see my bill worth ran to hundreds of thousands of rupees. They offered me a deal to keep all the 3 lines, at a subsidized cost. They kept pushing for this for long & finally I okayed it.
After months this happened, I checked my usage now, it's almost NIL usage on these 3 lines. As the new high speed line works perfect 99% of the times.
I called up the customer care of Vendor1 again and requested them to look at my usage.
For those 3 lines, I've been paying the bill for the last 6 months without ANY usage.
I decided to cancel 2 lines and just have one as backup for the highspeed one.
After all these years with V1, contributing so much to their revenue without any late payments, I requested to waive the current months bills for these two lines I'm cancelling.
Now these folks are talking to me for hours to waive just these 2 bills and not giving in. It's truly pissing off to realize they don't value a decade old loyal customer.
Or at times I'm feeling may be it's not fair to ask for such a waiver as it was me who agreed for all these alternate offers & proceeded with.

You are not married to them and it's your good right to cancel something you do not need anymore. Just cancel all three and be done with it. They are greedy and if it's all or nothing, it better be nothing on their side.
How about one of those prepaid mobile sticks as a backup? It's not fast, but at least you will not need to pay for nothing every month.

4G Data stick - I do have one. But the signals come and go often. I've had enough of this problem with network connections, In particular, it spoils so much if I'm on a conference call. It's such a piss off when you keep logging off and on during a conversation when rest of the team is silently watching this circus. 
That's why I fanatically went for 3+1+1(4G) connections. But now I'm getting back to senses.
This should be alright:
* 1 High speed fiber optics.
* 1 low speed back up broadband.
* 1 4G data dongle- if I happen to roam around.

When I first switched to broadband, I initially forgot to cancel the old dial-up service. I called a month later, and was told that because I hadn't used it at all the previous month, they would waive their normal termination fee (roughly £11).
I left the Direct Debit mandate in place for another six weeks, just in case, and then cancelled it.
Three years later, I received a stern warning letter from them: your bank has told us that you've cancelled the Direct Debit; fill out and return this form to set up a new one immediately, or your account will be terminated.
When I called them - and managed to bluff my way though the security questions that I no longer had the answers to! - I was told it was because I owed them the termination fee.
It took a good 30 minutes of arguing, escalating the call, and arguing again before they accepted that they'd previously told me I didn't have to pay it, and that they hadn't tried to take it within any reasonable time-frame. Eventually, they grudgingly told me (again!) that I wouldn't have to pay it.
The ISP is still going, although it's changed hands several times since. As far as I know, they haven't tried to take that £11 again since.

 Hassles!! On the related note, I did go through another incident.
Here what happened was, I submitted a hand-written cancellation application directly to their customer care office. (They could have easily made the cancellation procedure online but they didn't. This was one cheap trick they used to do, I postponed this application for months just because I had to walk up to their office, write it on a paper an stand in queue to submit it)
I submitted it anyway. Days after I got a call from a "manager" he said he would give me 2 months of *Completely free* usage without tagging any conditions or hidden charge.
He said he would call me by the end of 2nd month and then we could decide if it's okay to proceed or not. I told him very clear, "Okay, but do not trust that I'd continue this after two months, I'm just giving it a try".
During this two months , I again had connectivity problems(that's the original reason for cancellation)
So at the end of two months I had no wish to proceed. As I had already submitted the cancellation form, I just left as it is.
Guess what? that *Manager* sucker who called me 2 months back, never turned up and I had no reference to the agreements. After months, I got a warning call saying that I have 3 months of FULL UNPAID bill.
I did upset me, Now they say, At the end of two months free trial, It's me who should be walking to the customer care again and do the hand-written application for cancellation again.  I have to travel miles for this.
I told the executive clear "See I applied for the cancellation several months back, it's your stupid so called manager who offered me 2 months free trial, After two months it's YOU who should have called and asked with me, if I'm satisfied with the service or not".
This fight went on and on and on , then it became 14th month and they were showing a total of 7 months unpaid bill ridiculously. When I threw the cables off the window right after the trail ended.
The funniest part of this episode is , Some guys kept calling in a very official tone, says "Mr Vunic, an official forgery case have been filed by VendorX, You have cheated the company by not paying this much bill amount, you are supposed to appear for Delhi High court trial" which is thousands of miles away. 
75% of the people who gets this type of threat calls, believe it is true and they end up paying the bill in a hurry. As getting into legal scuffles turns out to be such a expensive affair in India. The advocate would rip more money than the suer himself.
lol. This went on for 4 years. They called once every 6 months and threatened with law suit. I turned a bit abusive till they stopped this stupid routine.

Threaten to cancel all 3 unless they waive the notice period for the other two. That may work. If not, just suck up and pay. Don't waste hours over sums of money that are not going to impact you seriously.

It's completely fair of them to charge you and not waive the fee. You agreed to it. Your problem that you didn't use the availability. Now, that doesn't mean it was compassionate or nice. But as far as your "loyalty" goes, well how does that count when you're canceling the lines? You're now a "disloyal" customer.

The waiver I'm asking for is like 0.0001% of the total amount I've paid them so far.
I'm trying to retain 1 line from them to continue being a "loyal" customer.

What we have finally settled on :
1. All pending bills waived for the line I'm cancelling.
2. 75% discount on any line that I'm retaining.
So, I cancelled 1 line & retained two lines. After a lengthy conversation, I was able to get this.
I'm happy but I really dislike spending this much time with these executives.

Hi,
Can you recommend any good IT asset management web application? At the moment we do not have any formal way to monitor all the equipments purchased like servers, firewall, cables, MacBook, etc.
We are looking for an application where we can easily feed in all the equipments we have along with serial number, year they were purchased and if there are any issues and similarly for software licences, to monitor when we need to renew it, log in details of solution providers etc.
