Hi All,
I remeber something a little while ago here about someone applying for a job and it actually being a device to get your CV and register you with an agency. Can't remember if I weighed in on it, but it happened to me, today coming out (luckily!) from an interview my pocket starts ringing. Being that I was a little out of it I agreed to a time wasting Skype chat with there team to so they can put a name to a face. I don't really know whats worse, I agreed to it or they wanted to put me forward for a MFC role...with a company I know does have any need for one. My spidey sense is tingling is this recruiter trying to appear busy?

It's very simple. He/she/it doesn't want to lose his/her/its job. 
EDIT: the 'it' appears because I'm uncertain whether recruiters are human.

I have the feeling that these "face to face" meetings are so they can gauge how likely you are to react to being gouged by the agency fee.

Could be different where you are or maybe times have changed a lot, but:
Back in real life, when I was interviewing for Chemical Research positions the agency, if any were involved, was paid by the employer.
Although I never got a programming job through an agency, those that I let have my resume all had their fees paid by the employers.
Has this changed, or is it a perk for living in US ?

How much of the total amount of money that gets passed onto you can differ if, as I believe, glenn.... has been looking at contractor posts. With a contractor position, the agency is normally responsible for paying you - so the client pays them, and they take a percentage of that as "admin" and keep it, with the rest going to you. Of course, they don't like telling you how much they are getting because that tells you how much of your overall fee they are taking, which you can then ask for a cut of.
