One Hollywood remake that was not great but not unwatchably bad was Solaris:

And a, believe it or not, brilliant Shakespeare out of Hollywood was was this:

How does that chart represent a decline in original films when it gives just 20 of the hundreds of films released in a period and is far from clear on what basis they have been chosen? You don't consider it at all misleading that films which became and were probably always intended to become franchises/series such as 48 Hours, Airplane!, Friday the 13th, and Poltergeist are all listed as original? And how does Any Which Way You Can get listed as original when it's a sequel to Every Which Way But Loose? How is Popeye an adaptation when it's manifestly a reboot?
If it shows anything it is only that the audience for series, remakes etc. has increased. Are you suggesting that Hollywood should only produce films that nobody wants to see (presumably because it's good for them)? Hollywood's bread and butter has always been franchises (Sherlock Holmes, Charlie Chan, James Bond) remakes and reboots (Frankenstein, Dracula), and formulaic stories (Shirley Temple, Mickey Rooney). It's what makes financing the truly original works possible. Complaining about it seems an awful lot like biting the hand that feeds you!

Still I could bring more data from web. Hollywood started blockbuster mentality long time ago(Started after movies Star wars & Jaws). They don't want to take risks by trying original ideas. So they simply choose adaptations, remakes & reboots(with franchises) which're familiar with most people. Of-course they do try original ideas rarely.
I'm not against to remakes but recent years Hollywood making too much bad remakes. Recently Point break, Hitman, Poltergeist, Robocop, etc., were sucked.
Good remakes IMO few here:
Original - Remake(s)
Yojimbo - Fistful of dollars
Sever Samurai - The Magnificent Seven & A Bug's Life
Dawn of the dead - Dawn of the dead
The ring - The ring
Recently Jungle book is good & better than original movie.
There're some more good remakes there but I haven't seen original movie of remakes(such as The Departed) so didn't mention those here.
Same thing goes for other things such as reboots & sequels/prequels.
Reboots:
I liked Nolan's Batman series. I hated Amazing spider-man reboot. Fantastic four 2015 version sucked very badly. They should give enough break(at-least 10 years) before making reboots.
Sequels:
I liked Indiana jones sequels. And so Harry potter, Lord of the rings, Toy story. Hated series like Transformers & Twilight. Most of horror movie sequels suck badly.
Prequels:
Liked X-Men : First class & Red Dragon. But there're so many tasteless prequels made to make just money. Recent one is Annabelle.
I hated them when Hollywood never tried(at-least they made big delay for some movies) same thing for some good movies like below:
Dredd, Hellboy, Pacific Rim(far better than Transformers), etc.,
I don't have problem with Adaptations. After Harry potter & Lord of the rings, studios trying to make more adaptations with series. We're getting series like Hunger games, Maze runner & divergent. Comic book movies also fine for me. I liked Hellboy, X-Men series, Dredd, Spiderman 2, Kick ass, Sin city, Super man 1 & 2, Watchmen, etc.,

That's why we're not getting much original script movies. But fortunately Indie film-makers making good movies with original ideas.

Already I mentioned my opinions above(on remakes & reboots). Bond! I liked Daniel craig's version very much after connery's. Frankenstein & Dracula? I remember the movie Van helsing which I liked but so many people hated that movie. I was expecting sequel to that movie but never happened & they're rebooting again. That movie has been directed by Stephen sommers. I liked his Mummy movies which is also a remake but enjoyed both movies(I don't like 3rd one - Tomb dragon).
Let me put briefly. Since last 10 years, Hollywood making too much remakes, reboots, sequels/prequels & most of them're bad.

Great movies, both of them.
Then came hollywood with "Last Man Standing". I like Bruce Willis and I love brutal testosteronic B-movies... but come on!

It's so trash that I want to see it - only because it's so bad it's good. It like watching kung fusion with respect to the Bruce Lee movies... funny but nothing like the immortal originals, which were true (thus debatable) art.

There was a time when I had only the time to work, study and work to fix a hell of a period: I was the very worst person around and believe me, you wouldn't want to get in 10 feet around me. So yes, if watching movies / playing games / planning my D&D campaign keeps me inside the premises of mental sanity thopse hours are anything but wasted. At least it grants me some more year of life...

Your expectations were way too high. 'Hollywood remakes foreign film and the result is equal to/better than the original?'
True Grit (2010) also a remake but of another Hollywood effort is in my opinion way better than the earlier one.

So I set off looking for a simple screen capture video recorder blithely assuming that freeware is still out there to be found. What I find instead is that 'free' doesn't mean 'free' any more. Free means try now pay later, or restricted use, or saves only to YouTube, or ad support, or piles of junk thrown in, or sell your soul, or anyone of a thousand other deals with the devil. When did that happen?
Anyway, if anyone can recommend an actually free program fit for purpose you'll find me on my despair chair wondering where it all went wrong and pondering all the other disillusionments of the 21st Century (did you know there's not even any coal tar in coal tar soap these days?)

Not that particular site but one very like it. CamStudio is the top recommendation on both but it seems to have fallen into grubby hands since and most of the other suggestions fall under the taint of not really being free when you examine them properly. Hence my rantette.

CamStudio is still free, as far a I know. At least it was a couple months ago when I downloaded it.
It's still a PITA to use, of course, too.

It is still free but there have been multiple reports of it being infected with malware. As you will understand I'm not keen on finding out whether they are true or not!
