The operate word is "celebrate" we have the party on the 24th - not the 25th like I understand you do in England and a lot of other countries Wiki Link[^]...
If I take out "eve" and just write "Xmas", will it help your confusion?

There are a lot of Christmas parties on the 24th in the UK - The 25th is a day of food, presents, more food, booze, even more food, and children. Most of them eating. And tree worship, of course.
There are few parties on the day as most people are too far over the drink drive limit to be allowed near the car keys, let alone the car!
