I have heard it pronounced by an Italian, but the a was actually somewhere between those in far and fat. Perhaps Beelzebub will enlighten us.

Can't help feeling that the name Orion is a throw back to the Nuclear powered Rocket from the '60s, it such a waste that the Apollo was binned totally, the US lost it's way after the moon missions (didn't say landings as it could cause a flame war). Off topic but have you read the Andy Weir book The Martian?
