I have been moaning about the performance speeds and loading times for my website and nothing I seemed to do hrlped.
It seemed that the bug in the opencart software was the nucleus of all my trobles.
It insisted on doing a category count every time you clicked on a link and with nearly 30, 000 items in hundreds of categories this was destroying the available resources.
I migrated from a shared to a dedicated server which brought more issues into equation as it was now not pointing to the right server.
I enacted a very kludgy repair but it didnt help much, although I could now see the database.
Then there was problems with the admin panel, and again a quick and nasty patchbto the config.php file resolved it.
I then found out about the bug and did an upgrade to the software thinking this would fix the problem, but it did not help.
A corrupted db on badly patched software with server pointing issues and a partial upgrade had all taken their toll.
I decided that it would be better to wipe it out and start from scratch..
So, bravely, I killed the lot.
Downloaded and installed the opencart software (latest version with the fix), intalled vqmod, then created a new MySQL DB a:nd attached that to the store. Added the various extras I had purchased and uploaded the csv file.
Hey presto...
Page loading in 2 seconds, not two minutes.
It was brave of me though, I habe used plesk before and my db skills are very rusty.
All in all though I am pleased with the result.

You've got a website?
I didn't know that... Has it got a nice shipping trolley as a favicon, or is it one of those nasty "bucket" shops?

And on top of all that, considering all the spelling mistakes and grammar fubars of your post, you did all of that whilst obviously being a good way into your second fifth of gin. Well done!
Cheers!

Congratulations well done.
I hate those brave breath taking moments... especially when it doesn't work.
Can you post a link to your site please Dave?

Technically, CP is the only one that I'm active in.
SETI - 1999-05-16
Code Project - 2001-01-05
GIMPS - 2008-09-30
Although the GIMPS one may be the oldest one I joined (1996) since 2008 was when they migrated from v4.0 to v5.0.

I would tell you how long I was on Compuserve if I could remember my ID!
I was on SETI as well for a while.

Pah! You had a modem? I used an acoustic coupler on the phone, 150/150 baud at best!

Based on your sig, you are part of linkedin.
Whether its a community or not is arguable, but you are still part of it, aren't you?

That is why I said oldest. LinkedIn is fairly new compared to the rest, as is Facebook.

Ok. Makes sense now.
My mistake.

I'm also on LinkedIn - and I get job opportunities as close as 250 miles away to prove it - but that doesn't mean I am part of it as a community.
To me, it seems to be a community made wholly of lazy, stupid recruiters...

I am from the UK but currently based in the US. I once applied for a job in Kuala Lumpur I had found through LinkedIn. I didn't get it but now I get lots of "opportunities" considerably further away than 250 miles!

I signed up to the Ramsnet email list for Derby County fans in 1998.
I've been using it today to whinge about yesterday's result.
After the match yesterday I was drinking with three others I first 'met' through the list.
