I expect my manager to keep the idiots out of my cube or office. Watches over spec changes and defends his/her group.
better, the manager needs to know their role and not be a twit.

I expect my manager to:
- Do the necessary tasks so that I can perform my job
- Keep morons of all levels out of my office.
And yes, I've had managers who apparently thought that the best way to get a project done was to demand status reports three times a day.

compared to David Lynch's 1984 version: a dud. disappointing: i'm a fan of Denis Villeneuve's other films. even worse than the 2000 tv mini=series.
Timothee Chalamat as Paul Atreides/Muad Dib is a pouting wimp, who is as miscast in this as he was in "The King" where he played Prince Hal.
Zendaya, a fine young actress just at the start of her career, as Chani, the Fremen love-interest: wooden.
Stellan Skarsgard, a world-class actor, as Baron Harkonnen, never given a chance to "shine."
Vague shapes of people wandering around in acres of sand and dust, with an in-your-face sound-track.

And the David Lynch version was bad enough. But to be fair it was really an impossible book to make into a decent film.

for me the Lynch 1984 version remains ... fantastic ... taking into account the state of special effects at that time, remarkable. Compared to its sequels, it is character-driven as much as it is plot driven.
Kyle MacLachlan was superb in portraying the inner conflicts of boy-turned-teen thrust into manhood and responsibility by his father's death, and violent crisis.
Plus you had the stellar supporting cast at their peak: Patrick Stewart, Brad Dourif, Dean Stockwell, Virginia Madsen, José Ferrer, Sting, Linda Hunt and Max von Sydow.
Lynch doesn't "feel good" about it now: [^].
If only Lynch had been able to release the version he wanted to !

You raise a good point, there: Luke S. transitioned from boy to man over multiple movies; but, i can't remember him pouting, or looking physically frail.

He was pouting when Yoda confronted him with his "feelings".

Not my favourite version either, watched it in the local cinema and although the visuals were ok, I found the constant bombastic and loud music too much and not building up to a real climax.
But maybe I'm getting too old for this kind of stuff, the younger ADHD generation might appreciate it.

ha, I'm a big Tolkein fan so I've been waiting my entire life for the movies. Check mark.
Dune was exceptional in the novel but that first movie for me was meh.
Was very excited to see the new full CGI coming out... hell I like popcorn

I'm no movie buff and only vaguely remember the original. My knowledge of the story comes from the Iron Maiden narrative.

Isn't it called To Tame a Land?
Admittedly, from time to time, I've called it Dune as well.
+5 for a Maiden reference.

It might have tried to be too artistic. The pace picked up in the second half though. Part 2 looks like it should be more exciting. It's quite weird though (for someone who isn't familiar with Dune).

I liked Lynch's Dune, I saw it as a teenager when it came out and my father, who had read the books, explained a lot to me afterwards.
Seeing the trailers for this recent version, it just looks a bit like a Lynch remake.

Huh - that's not what I've heard from all the - I hesitate to say 'disciples' - but certainly great fans of Dune I know who've seen it. But nothing could be worse than the execrable pile of filth that David Lynch directed. The idiot even had it rain at the end, thereby missing the entire point and ruining it completely. What a heap of steaming crap.

Loved the 1984 "Dune" even with some of the cheesy special effects but most of them were pretty good.
Loved the SciFi Channels 3-part miniseries as well.
And no one could beat Francesa Annis as Duke Leto's wife in the 1984 version. Her hairstyle and look can not be replicated today by any of the current actresses.
When I saw who would play Paul Atreides in the new movie, I felt this would never work.
Looks like it didn't...

Interesting. I never liked the Lynch version but found the new release quite good. The characters were well cast, the CGI excellent (especially in IMAX), and the flow good. Films spend the money on actors, CGI, directors, and marketing. Allocate it for any two and you can have a winner. Try to spread it across all four and it's guaranteed to fail.
