Thank you! I was at least close with "green band." For me it was using a Wang OIS with that giant 4 megabyte hard drive.

I never thought of green as a more common color. I think of it as either light blue or light gray. Maybe that varied from country to country / paper manufacturer to paper manufacturer.
So 'green bar' doesn't ring a bell at all. We used to call it 'zebra paper'.

But no, the zebra paper I have used has almost without exception been of colors different from green. I have seen the green variant as well, and know positively that I can distinguish it from the light blue or gray variant.
When I think of it: It could be that the zebra stripes tend to be green in banking printouts (but not as much in other trades, e.g. software development). That makes sense in the US; not as much in other countries. I must admit that I was a grown man before I realized the strong symbol value of the color green in US culture. In most other cultures, it has no similar foundation.

At that time I worked in a variety of industries in the UK, all used green bar. At one job (which was financial) we had a box of continuous green-bar line printer paper (printout of credit card transactions - we supported a credit card processor) sitting on the windowsill. One hot summer day someone decided to open the window; when we came back from lunch the top few sheets had blown out of the window, followed by the entire rest of the box. A ribbon of paper, maybe 200 feet long, was billowing up the street into the busy town centre. All covered in tens of thousands of confidential credit card data. Oh, how we laughed...
A few years later, during the infamous "not a hurricane" of 1987, a similar thing happened in our office (by then I was working for a software vendor). A few windows blew out and all the piles of printed COBOL / ADS-Online code ended up everywhere, in massive tangles. Just when we thought we'd gathered it all together, someone spotted a bit sticking out through the ceiling tiles. We investigated and most of the roofspace above the false ceiling was completely full with tangled up line-printer paper.
(We waited a week before turning on some of the rain-soaked VDUs, and all of them were fine.)

Once I got my memory jogged I remembered it clearly. Where I was using it way back when (Houston, TX) it was green bar. But it's likely that it had other names, too.

O/T a bit, but if you can still find those printers at a thrift store or something, pick them up and flip them. They are worth a fortune because of carbon copy stationary that is still used by small businesses.
To err is human. Fortune favors the monsters.

Way behind the curve I know. Here in Sweden we called it pyjamas paper, it mostly had blue stripes...

Vulnerability discovered in Apple M1 chip • The Register[^]
tl;dr: "MIT CSAIL computer scientists on Friday said they have identified a way to bypass the M1 chip's pointer authentication, a security mechanism that tries to prevent an attacker from modifying memory references without being detected."
That ... could get expensive ...

It should get expensive but likely won't. Apple will probably not do the right thing and recall all the airbooks and ipads, my wife has both, both are M1. I have gleefully, none.

I've noticed tl;dr: appearing in some posts ! is it accidental or does it mean something ?

The question of expense depends on whether or not this is a microcode bug or a hardware bug. Microcode can be fixed but hardware would likely require replacement.

I just got my new win 11 custom built workstation and I frigging love it. I was very afraid at first having horrible upgrade experiences in the past. So far I like the fact that the start button in the center and everything is pin able either to task bar or start bar. I am now at the large single monitor and having start in the center rather than bottom left removes strain from me eye balling it. VS 2022 installed seamlessly and Office 2021 64 bit installed and works great.
I was able to pull down few older Git Hub projects, for test purposes, and rebuilding them nearly without a glitch with a single modification to an environment variable.
I am still somewhat confused to the Account Settings though. I prefer to run on a non admin account as it lowers my chances of executing a malicious downloaded code. However what I see now is either full Admin account settings or non Admin account (denied of any installations privileges) settings. On Win 10 I was able to tweak a standard user account to install but still be under non admin privilege. But all in all I did not see any show stopping items and even with current setup I can do what needs to be done.

I had heard so many that had posted about their bad experiences with wIN11 that I held off upgrading for the longest time.
But once I did upgrade I really like it and so far it's been a pleasant experience.

I bought a Dell XPS 17 at the start of this year. It had Win 10 installed, but came with the Win 11 image as well. I figured eventually I would need to install it, so did the upgrade right off the bat.
I find that Win 11 works smoothly, and seems to run faster overall. The only thing I am not fond of is the redesigned Start Menu - I liked having my favorites set up in clear groups, and room enough to show all the items I need without paging. I'll have to see what I can do about that...
