4. No politics (including enviro-politics[^]), no sex, no religion.
If you want to pursue that line of discussion, it belongs in the Soapbox, or possibly even the back room[^].

I agree, but I am confused as to why you made the comment to me instead of the OP who brought religion in from the beginning.
There are only 10 types of people in the world, those who understand binary and those who don't.

Are you being serious or just trying to support Dave because he is "popular"?

Quote: If not evolution, then what? Space Pixies and Magic Dust?
By the way, mentioning a creator is not bringing in religion.

OK, so if mentioning a creator is not bringing in religion, then how does mentioning sky pixies, space pixies or magic dust count as bringing in religion? Is there a "sky pixie / space pixie / magic dust" religion that I'm not aware of?
And I'm not just supporting Dave because he's popular; with the exception of the Moon landings, I happen to agree with a lot of what he says.

Quote: OK, so if mentioning a creator is not bringing in religion, then how does mentioning sky pixies, space pixies or magic dust count as bringing in religion? I Sky pixies, space pixes, and magic dust are his way of "trying" to offend religion. A creator is not religion. Religion puts attributes and characteristics to a creator.
Regardless, I don't see why you have no problem with his post, especially since he called people stupid for disagreeing with him, and have a problem with mine. Sure feels like favoritism. Not that I care, just saying.

I don't have a problem with your post as such. I was just pointing out that if you're trying to start a debate on the relative merits of evolution vs religion, it doesn't belong in the Lounge.
But then we seem to have digressed into a debate on whether this was already a religious debate, so I guess that defeated the purpose.

I think the point is that many people simply don't give a fart, and don't even give it any thought -- presumably because they're far too busy with important stuff like analysing Coronation Street, their bank balances, or football results/statistics.
Those of us who do give it any thought have obviously got the wrong priorities.

I think you've hit the nail on the head. I'm sure someone questioned this "fact" a while back and the study was flawed, as most people have no idea how evolution works on a basic level and this counted as non-belief. It is surprising how poor the public understanding of evolution is, even among people who have take some interest (e.g people hold we descended from chimpanzees, whereas we descended from a common ancestor with the chimpanzees, albeit a chimp-like ancestor).
I'm curious: do you actually have no interest in evolution or is this a debating position for DD?

I have no general interest in the subject.
But just bored at work redesigning a database schema to work around some specification changes so just having fun to see IF Dave would directly answer rather than skirt around it.

The US is filled with fundamentalist religious types, the UK used not to be.
Unfortunately we have let in so many that are afflicted with that most awful of mental disorders, religion, and let them breed and brainwash their children, that the number of people who have any ability for scientific thought processes or are capable of reason and argument based on evidence and fact are reducing.

I totally agree. Just like the people who don't believe we landed on the Moon.

Yes the Chinese or the Russians don't dispute it.

That is not proof.
I have a theory that my dog can talk, but they haven't disputed that either so it must be true.

Dave, I thought you were more well spoken than that.
