Microsoft, release me or you will die...
IT - for God's sake or mine, get your act together. Please, I'm begging.
I have a VM for my customer. I login, all is well. I'm in, pull up Outlook. My password needs to be entered. Entered - nope.
It's expired, please change it.. Okay - dialog box with old, new, new ver password - entered - nope. There is nothing, and I mean nothing in the dialog to indicate what sh*t s/w Microsoft has an issue with... old password? new? what? give me an f'ing clue.
Meanwhile phone is tinging with multiple "enter this code" authentication messages. All rejected.
There was a saying long ago that no one ever got fired for picking IBM. Then it became ... picking Microsoft. But I seriously have to wonder, who the elephant makes these decisions?

and no way to turn it off. And IT has been siloed to corporate land somewhere who the heck knows.
Someone made some changes on the corporate vpn and firewall, and they don't want to admit it. But the company *has* fully embraced the dark side (Microsoft), and now most of IT says, "well, we'll ask MS."

I just happened to have heard "Walk of Life" as you wrote those words.
They sure were a great band. (Don't know if they still perform.)

i have recently been getting Stop Codes of various descriptions e.g. IRQ something or other , MEMORY something or other , POWER something or other. A free memory check utility reported bad RAM. Upon investigating i learned my machine can be upgraded w/ more memory and the HD replaced w/ an SSD. Upon doing so 4G RAM -> 16G RAM and the HD -> SSD building LLVM only required 30h. So I guess this machine still requires a calendar to clock it. But still the Stop Codes are the best thing that has ever happened to me as this pig of a machine almost sprouted wings.

Where have you been? I'd venture to say that the adoption of SSDs alone has kept many a PC/laptop out of the trash heap!
Of course a 4x memory boost helps too! Happy coding on your upgraded system!

I never upgrade a machine. I replace them in an intervall of about 5-8 years.
But: When I buy a new machine I'm willing to spend really money.
Now my laptop and my desktop are about more then 6 years, but because I spend really money that time, they are still 'state of the art'.

I use this strategy as well.
