They are Oracle consultants who get very rich from people using Oracle.
"There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies. The first method is far more difficult." - C.A.R. Hoare

Doesn't Oracle own MySQL these days?

For the same reason that MS has hardly ever lost business customers, no matter their antics: they have enough money to ensure continuance of service.
Ever since Db4, I've been wondering why more people don't write their own databases. It ain't rocket surgery -- and if you don't use sql, there ain't no sql injection.

I'm working on SQLServer nowadays, but I would prefer Oracle.
I think it's a lot to do with on what system you learned SQL.
SQLServer is more forgiving than Oracle though, it's a bit like comparing VB with C#.

A few years ago I got saddled with having to work with Oracle and thought I would brush up on it (I had not used it in a decade). When I ran across an article by an Oracle DBA who praised Oracle for their requirement for all caps on TABLE AND FIELD names I ducked on the project. There are many things to dislike about Oracle but that was a deal breaker.
Oh yeah and the POS Toad is another one.

There is no such requirement, default behaviour is case insensitive. If you want them case sensitive you need to wrap them in double quotes "" , same as [] on SQLServer.
Personally I find the limit of 30 characters for Table and Column names a lot worse.

I'm actually surprised that it still exists and is free and open source. I would have thought that Oracle would have either retired it or made it a paid product by now.
And seriously, after having worked with MySql: It's crap too! I would never, ever use it myself in a production system. It's a Mickey Mouse database system that is good for nothing but small homemade websites with minimal database requirements!

I agree , for me I have a lot of time for Postgres - bit of a learning curve if you're from MS background but worth the effort.

If I did that, I would get a Disney lawsuit on my hands faster than you can say "Goofy"!

My company uses a lot of Oracle.
Luckily I'm in the SQL Server team.
Just this week a coworker from another team said to me "SQL Server is not a real database."
I replied "For a not-database it has awesome tooling compared to the much more expensive Oracle."
His mouth disagreed, but I'm pretty sure his heart knew I was right
|
|

|

Yes! that!
I rather work with "Not a database" which is awesome than a so called "real database" that can only be used remotely close to 10% efficiency by "real DBA"

My business partner asked me earlier this week about a code generator tool that would allow her (mostly a non-programmer) to build prototype/poc web applications using a click-and-drag type of interface. I immediately responded with 'ironspeed' remembering that for a long time they were a sponsor here. Little did I know that they are now defunct due to a lawsuit. To my credit, September of last year, when this made news, was a rough time work-wise, so I wouldn't have been reading too much news! Oh, the irony! (Sorry, not funny...)
Anyway, she found an alternative (not free but not unreasonable either) with asprunner.net.
I haven't heard of them before now and apparently, she will be using it to start work on a project we discussed last week which I dismissed as not being feasible given the development resources available (me)...So, it seems she is replacing one code generating tool for another! One that doesn't talk back.
So, joking aside, has anybody here seen this product (asprunner.net) or the generated output thereof? If so, I hope it allows tweaking as I am sure to become responsible for it in the future.
Who knows? It could be a good thing...
Edit: I've just noticed that this post was marked as abusive/spam and got dinged for it. If someone could tell me what statement here is abusive, I'd sure like to know. For the individual(s) who complained, fuadiaf...

See, this is why you, as a human code generator, cannot be replaced by a robotic code generator.
Never used asprunner.net, but their website doesn't same anything about support on mobile devices (that I noticed.)
