I'm not John Wayne, but I kicked his ass a couple of times. Chuck Norris, too...

Actually, John Wayne said it in She Wore a Yellow Ribbon.

Meh...I've seen worse, but its nice to see someone be self-aware for a change.
In fairness, the initial proposition was silly (and oft-repeated). Languages are simply tools. My current favorite is C#, but that changes easily, depending on the size of the paycheck

It didn't seem that bad to me...I've seen (and on occasion said) worse here. I saw 'TIOBE' in that post and lost interest immediately. That index has already been discussed here (by that same member) and the general consensus then is that it is rubbish. It really shouldn't have been brought up again, unless the goal was to get rep points.
It does piss me off to see members get evangelical about their programming language of Choice dismissing anything else as inferior. Programming languages are tools to get a job done...between VB as C#, it all boils down to MSIL anyway. I use both but actually prefer to avoid the semi-colons and braces. IMHO, that's a better argument than the fact that a language must be garbage because it still contains a construct (on error resume next) that good programmers know to avoid. Really, you can create crappy code in any language.

Completely agree. I've seen good and bad coding in many languages.

But most of the truly horrendous coding honestly happens in Hindi Visual Basic...

It looks like a genuine apology and I give you full credit. Contrition is rarely witnessed in this or other forums and your example is refreshing.

Hi All,
Halt & Catch Fire has been mentioned before in the lounge, I think. I though it was worth mentioning again as the series goes on you spot more and more. One character seeming to do a Steve Jobs, C++ Object Oriented Nazi's, An early version of EBay, my only gripe is at times the components they are using are too modern (eye-gap LED's) and someone who went to the shop and bought a breadbox C64 and 520 STFM at the same time...

The words, I do understand them, but what are you trying to tell us?

His last invention was an evil Lasagna. It didn't kill anyone, and it actually tasted pretty good.

It doesn't matter that it's bigger if it's floppy.

I cannot believe how many companies and people not only don't have Phone Numbers and Contact Details in Active Directory but don't think a Signature in email is important for like letting us know where in the company hierachy you live and a contact number.
Got a job to do after hours, wait till 19:30 when of course everyone will have left the office and jump on to perform maintenance. Can't get on cause it says it is still logged on, nothing new here, so I reboot and start work only to get an email from a colleague who got the email to say WTF. So I stopped maintenance and loggged off but can't contact the bloke to let him know as office phone on after hours and no other form of contact.
This was an hour after another customer had organised for me to fix her stuff at 15:00, couldn't get hold of her so I left it and came home early as I had other stuff going on until midnight. So at 18:30 I jump on to find her work still open and I could see it was pretty official. Disconnected and tried the office phone as no mobile anywhere. Luckily she answered and put off the work until tomorrow.
