We have a product that for reasons that only make sense to marketing, has what is known as "the dongle farm". It looks something like this:
+-----+
| | +-----+
| | | +--> Dongle
| | | +--> Dongle
| | | +--> Dongle
| +-->| Hub +--> Dongle
| | | +--> Dongle
| | | +--> Dongle
| | | +--> Dongle
| | | +--> Dongle
| | +-----+
| |
| | +-----+
| | | +--> Dongle
| | | +--> Dongle
| | | +--> Dongle
| +-->| Hub +--> Dongle
| | | +--> Dongle
| | | +--> Dongle
| | | +--> Dongle
| | | +--> Dongle
| | +-----+
| Hub |
| | +-----+
| | | +--> Dongle
| | | +--> Dongle
| | | +--> Dongle
| +-->| Hub +--> Dongle
| | | +--> Dongle
| | | +--> Dongle
| | | +--> Dongle
| | | +--> Dongle
| | +-----+
| |
| | +-----+
| | | +--> Dongle
| | | +--> Dongle
| | | +--> Dongle
| +-->| Hub +--> Dongle
| | | +--> Dongle
| | | +--> Dongle
| | | +--> Dongle
| | | +--> Dongle
| | +-----+
+-----+ Each dongle represents support for one 'thing'. For customers with multiple machines, this lets them move 'thing' support from one machine to another. Fortunately, the pinhead software types on the product didn't have to solve this problem. The hardware folks and the marketing wabbos, after a drunken orgy of TLA schtuppage, decided on this solution.

...and did you like those $8 hubs?
In my experience, the good USB hubs are powered, and a lot more expensive than the cheapest ones you can find--but the same can be said for most things.
If they're not powered, good luck actually using 2 or 3 devices on that 8-port hub.

Excellent observations.
What I found was that the powered one that I had was defacto un-powered.
I was able to use an external keyboard, a mouse, and usually 2 or 3 thumb drives.
After awhile (don't have an accurate number of days/weeks/months) the physical plugs started losing their ability to physically connect.
Then again, for $8, and the thing lasting 2+ years, well, pretty good value in terms of price/performance.

Not sure if this has been posted here before.
I was unable to watch it at work because tears were streaming down my face as I was laughing at this: Let's deploy to production - YouTube[^]

A colleague of mine used to work for a well know software games company.
He has vowed never again to work in the software gaming industry after his experience - I heard bits of what it was like and for an industry that provides "entertainment" to other people, the amount of suffering it creates in its employees is just one huge brain***k of cognitive dissonance given the goal is to create happiness for its customers.

Spanish risa -> English laugh
risitas -> small laughs -> English "chuckles"?

He's been everywhere.
I'm surprised he's not part of the Der Untergang cast by now (which is also one of those videos that has been re-subtitled many, many times)
