I say you have it backwards - parents think kids are cute, especially their own; I can't say I've ever seen any kid I thought was particularly cute.
George Carlin at least had the balls to say it out loud: they're ugly, they look alien and they look deformed.

I know you're joking (and it's pretty funny ), but I really don't want kids and it's a bit of a taboo.
People are like "just wait until you meet a woman who does" or "just wait until you're a bit older."
I've learnt not to answer the "why" question because people get offended and might call you names, like selfish, childish, narrow minded and that sort of stuff.
Or, another "favorite" of mine, people will list all the things they love about kids, that I clearly don't.
I know a woman who once said "they keep saying such stuff until you're about 40, after that point people will assume you can't have children so they won't ask because they don't want to make it awkward."
You might be wondering why I'd mention it at all, it's because having kids is the default and people always talk about "just wait until you have kids of your own."
It's even worse on dating apps, where women my age (early 30's) ask me if I want kids even before properly introducing themselves
I've always considered The Netherlands as pretty open-minded and although it's less open-minded than I thought it was, I've understood that other countries are even worse.
Like in Israel, I've heard, you're just out of the game if you don't want at least multiple children (don't know if that's true though).
I don't really have a point with this rant, I just wanted to raise some awareness that some people really don't want children and that's okay!

Michelle had a son before I met her, unfortunately he had a genetic disease and died young. She arrived in my life already sterilized so as not to let it happen again. Suits me fine!

Sander you are correct. Everyone is different. and to each their own. I actually do have 3 children. and even though I thought I did ok raising them. I would not wish the pain of raising them on anyone. IF you don't want kids. YOU ARE NOT BEING Selfish. They are a huge commitment.
I just don't even say anything along those lines of "just wait until you have kids". I might ask if one has kids just to try to relate life experiences with said person. But if they don't have kids I move onto the next life experiences match to have a conversation. I am not in the game of fixing someone elses life. Mine is screwed up enough.
The ones that cause me heart ache are those that cannot and want them. Or those that didn't want them but were forced into the situation. That is not good for any of the parties.

If you don't want them, don't have them. But you'll miss out on the best personal growth you could ever have if you don't raise kids.
But it's your decision and I don't care one way or the other.

You're not all wrong; Israel is very much a child-oriented society. Most Israeli couples (of whatever religion) want at least some children, and it is rare in my experience to find a couple that admits that they do not any children.

Garmin is finally bringing their services online this morning after being down for nearly a week because of ransomware. Garmin has been very tight lipped about what is going on and saying nothing thru official channels. That doesn't mean lots of employees aren't talking though.
what I am curious about is how they are correcting this issue. The way I see it they had three choices.
1. do a system restore and bring things up. - I doubt this one happened just because of the time it has taken. But I might be wrong.
2. Rebuild the systems from scratch and let everyones devices rebuild the data into the system. It looks like this might be possible at least for the wearable devices. Would not work for aviation.
3. Paid the ransomware and watch things automagically start working. This would be concerning in that what is left in the system?
Thoughts?

Personally, I prefer the "nuclear option": reformat and reload from backup.
Paying the ransom? Not a good idea - firstly because it encourages more attacks, both generally (because it's money for old rope) and specifically (because you paid last time, you're more likely to get attacked again (it's always easier to recycle a mug punter than find new ones).
And there is the other risk with paying: there are fake ransomwares out there: they scramble your data, but don't actually worry about encryption. You pay, they send you a code that doesn't work; you pay again, ... repeat until the accountants find out.

Agreed. This assumes, of course, that (a) you have been making backups, and (b) the backups are readable. Horror stories about corrupt backups that were not verified abound.

Also agreed. However, if the choice is between going out of business because of SysAdmin stupidity/negligence and paying the ransom...

It takes time to recover from an attack.
You need to sanitize all your servers/databases, you need to sanitize all desktops/laptops/portable devices that has access to their systems.
You need to upgrade "best practices"; you need to upgrade your security systems.
You probably need to hire a trusted 3rd party to double check all systems.
You also need to check with your lawyers and insurances.

Nearly every business seems to be requiring masks now but what I find interesting is that they are also enforcing social distancing rules as well. It seems that if you are saying we still need to stay away from each other even with masks on you're really saying that masks don't work.
Too much emotion involved in so many decisions these days. #BringBackLogic

If airbags work, why have seat belts? If seatbelts work, why have airbags? If both work, why have brakes?
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, weighing all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?

So replace "airbags" with "face masks" and replace "seat belts" with "social distancing" and you have just answered your own question.
