If anyone remembers Leo Laporte from TechTV, he's launched his own podcast "network" after TechTV shut down. A lot of his podcasts are more mainstream than developers might like, but there's a few that are still technical enough; Security Now perhaps being the most hardcore of them. Windows Weekly focuses on Windows news, and I mostly listen to it for entertainment; I just like the banter. This Week in Tech is more about tech news in general, and I could take it or leave it.
Other shows they produce focus on Apple and Android, and those are just too fanboy-ish for my tastes.
raddevus wrote: [ ] Do you listen to any Software Development Podcasts?
No. They're all terrible.
raddevus wrote: [ ] Do you listen to any Podcasts?
Beyond those I've mentioned above, I listen to No Agenda, which is purely news deconstruction (although there's a lot of focus on US politics, especially these days obviously). They essentially focus on exposing the BS there is in the media presented as "news". They cover enough material to keep me informed so I generally don't bother with the mainstream media--this podcast alone makes their coverage redundant. And they dig a lot deeper.
raddevus wrote: [ ] Do you ever use SoundCloud?
Nope. Give me a raw RSS feed and I'm a happy podcast listener.
raddevus wrote: [ ] Do you listen to podcasts on your computer?
Yes.
raddevus wrote: [ ] Do you listen to podcasts on a device? (is it just apple?)
Yes. No to Apple. "No to Apple" in general. My device of choice is my old Zune. Still works fine, and it manages podcasts on its own exactly as podcasts should be managed. The only reason I listen to some podcasts on my computer instead of the Zune is that some of them have dropped older encryption algorithms, and the Zune software doesn't know how to handle them.
raddevus wrote: [ ] Do you ignore podcasts?
Obviously, no.

Great answers. THanks for sharing and I'll try the leo laporte podcast.
I was just looking for some podcasts myself.

That's kind of what I thought.

Around the summer of '97 is when I moved off to the wilderness and got back into computers. (after a 10 year hiatus) Luckily, at least I had satellite TV and one of my favorite channels was ZDTV w/Leo LaPorte.

I never listen to any sort of tech podcast. My brain is already full of useless tech stuff. It will go into overload and explode if I try to absorb any more!
I used to listen to lots of, (non-tech), podcasts when I was commuting into the office, but have seriously lapsed since WFH. Now, whilst working, I just listen to music. I can't concentrate if people are talking at me - resulting in sh!t code and losing the thread of the podcast!!!

I've listened to over 100 (unabridged) books on tape, CD, ram player over the years as I commuted to and from work. I always tried to stick with non-fiction so I'd learn something but also listened to quite a few fiction. At one point all of my listening was related to how the brain works and I really learned a lot.
And I agree I don't even like listening to music with lyrics when I'm programming. I listen to smooth jazz (only instrutmental) almost constantly.

Given that statement, I actually found one (tech related) and tried to work while listening...doesn't really work for me. At least with a video you are kind of forced to focus/watch...just a couple of guys talking shop couldn't hold my interest. That said, it might work nicely with headphones while the wife is watching HGTV reruns.

Yeah, most of them are tough to listen to. They just get into the weeds on subjects and I get lost.

There are a couple of good C++ podcasts (one is more regular than the other). Also listen to one or two .NET podcasts and some other programming language related ones. I listen to more podcasts on other subjects, though - history, football (the non-US version of football!), music - very large variety of things.

[x] Do you listen to any Tech Podcasts?
a bunch. Twit.tv has a range (another posted this)
added notes being:
All About Android - some rambling. some deatils points about version releases and changes.
Twit News - covers live events - meaning they talk over live events like apple or Samsung events.
This Week in Enterprise Tech - covers more tings like servers, security, it management related and news surrounding that
This week in Windows - lots of rambling talk, but some insightful things aswell.
[x] Do you listen to any Software Development Podcasts?
scanned and no one mentions .net rocks! https://www.dotnetrocks.com
been running since 2002, so no, age is not a thing to ignore podcasts.
They do cover more then just .net, they go deep and wide around software development.
Many a great guests

a few gimlet media casts: Science Vs, Startup,

Anna Farris Unqualified
Michael Rosenbaum Inside of You
Jameela Jamil iWeigh
Kevin smith SMOD cast and Fatman Beyond
Jay & Miles x-plain the X-men - 6+ year running recap of x-men, i listen new and trying to catchup in backlog which might take some more time with so many i listen to.

no
[ ] Do you listen to podcasts on your computer?
no - phone, with Pocket Casts app
[ ] Do you listen to podcasts on a device? (is it just apple?)
Android phone - again Pocket Casts app
app has search ("Discover") - which allows searching for all the mentioned above casts
Also i listen to all these at 1.3 or 1.4 speed sound - as its 99% talking and chatty stuff while I walk or do something low focus like playing a video game (ones with minimal voice over)

Thanks for the great reply. I am going to try .NET Rocks this morning.
LATER
I listened to .NET Rocks and I especially like that they were talking about the bad UX of web sites. They were really going off on the UPS site. They mentioned that if you're using it just to look up a tracking number then you don't notice but if you're really trying to ship something it is terrible.
This is the bad UX of many "professional" web sites: the site looks fine until you try to do something.
