I used to live in Huntsville. It was virtually impossible to find a native Alabamian there. They were all transplants from somewhere else (myself included!)!

These are serious geo-political issues; I'm still seeking to understand why people on the Lounge link to their own posts: if I can work that out, I think everything else will fall into place.

Well, I have given up trying to mess about with the video software any longer, and after numerous attempts to publish, eventually got at least a full export. It will have to do.
Not as refined as as it should be, needed more trimming down and some of the captions didn't export.
You can find the video link at the bottom of the blog post here Qatar is Calling: 1st Desert Camping![^] blog.
Better than nothing!
Oh, in case you are wondering, that is me in the white T-shirt and black shorts.
Edit: I just checked out Google Maps Satellite view, and think I found where we were: Google Maps[^]

Seas can be deserts. The definition is about mm of rainfall, not general wetness.

Mmm, I know thats how I floored a tour guide in the States once she asked the question 'what is the biggest desert on Earth?', I replied Antartica, she checked her iPad found I was right and after that I was always looked at to check facts...

Near the sea its going to stay warm.
Of course, what you say is very true though, low greenhouse gas (water vapour) in the air causes high highs and low lows. All GH gasses do is moderate extremes. Thats why where it is humid, its more constant with a much lower high.
Still, dont tell the AGW scientists this, the basic physics gives them the sh*ts...

I see sand.
I see the water.
Isn't that usually called "Beach" and not "Desert" ? ? ?

You have to drive through the desert to get the beach!
|
|
|

One might have to fly to Qatar to get there - but that doesn't make it an airport?
Similarly, what if one arrived at that point from the water side instead of the sand side?

So how far inland do you have to go to no longer be classed as 'the beach'? Is there a strict definition?
beach - National Geographic Society[^] says "Beaches can also be barren desert coastlines."

As I'm not a member of the National Geographic Society I needn't abide by their rules, decisions, or opinions.
So - how far? Well - that depends upon where you are at the time.
I live on a barrier island. Those living on "the mainland" consider all of us as living on/by the beach. On the other hand, those of us lining here consider the beach to start at the boardwalk.
However, if one is on the boardwalk, one might decide to go down to the beach (i.e., sandy part).
[What? No elephanting boardwalk on Qatar's beach? Cheapskates!]
In any case - I see a tent near the water-line and people frolicking in a beach-like manner. So - it's clearly a beach.

Excellent! I love great camping trips like this, and try to get out at least once a month, or every other month. A great resource for finding places to explore is the Expedition Portal[^].
