If you have an important point to make, don't try to be subtle or clever. Use a pile driver. Hit the point once. Then come back and hit it again. Then hit it a third time - a tremendous whack.

I'm not going to bother with the back story because cracked displays are all too common.
Phone is usable, minimal cracks in a corner but one clean one that goes from bottom right to middle left. Usually doesn't see it but from some angles or depending on colour on lightning it does show.
It's going to cost 250€ to get this little mistake fixed... or a brand new s7 for 500€.
Live with it (haven't dared to try and see how it impacts VR), repair or get a new?
Or chuck it all to hell and just stick to smoke signals?

Don't try and do it yourself - it's truly a PITA and the chances are you will break something important or expensive.
If it's minimal and doesn't affect the use, I'd probably live with it myself. If it makes the digitiser wonky, then it needs something done.
I suspect you have already made the decision, from the "or a brand new s7 for 500€" comment: you've looked at models, looked at prices, ...
So what do you want? Us to say "get a new one" to justify what you have already pretty much decided?

Overall I prefer to use until no longer an option, repair if possible.
I once tried my hands on phone repair several years ago when my wife cracked thee display of her earlier galaxy model. Several years before they removed the battery cover altogether. I did manage to open it up. Replace the screen and get it to work perfectly. Sadly I managed to destroy the antenna.
I don't think I'll buy a new one straight up. Just that I saw the same model for that price while browsing for network hardware.
Leaning towards repair but I'm not sure its worth that price compared to the value of reducing my annoyance at the cracked screen.

My cheap phone is cracking in many places. Until it works or I find a suitable substitute it will stay there.
In 14 years I spent 630€ on phones - I will never buy something that expensive.

Just put a screen protector over it.
"Fixed" phones never quite work right (had one screen replaced, after that would get misty/condensation) - front bezel was slightly out-of-shaped, and the warranty on repairs doesn't cover the new things that start to happen.

Easier said than done: I owned a couple of smartphones which weren't iToys nor Samsung Galaxy and there wasn't a single cover or screen protector available for sale. Next handset I'll take will be a Galaxy S<something> just because I learnt the hard way that if I want the barest trace of support then I'm required to buy a mainstream model.

But a screen protector doesn't fix the crack in the screen. Maybe a car glass repair shop could patch it up instead.
I do have a protective film on it which is what I suspect kept my screen from becoming useless instead of just slight annoyance.

I'm on my third.
I'd still be on my first, but I keep breaking the damned things -- reason No.1 for not paying EUR600 a pop.
I've had a Doogee and a Xiaomi. and I've currently got an Asus. All of them brilliant (and already superseded by better models -- which is good, because I'm bound by the laws of the great god Buggermi to break this one, soon).

I'm rather tempted - my ex-contract Galaxy S5 is falling to pieces (through complete and utter neglect and abuse, it must be admitted) and there's no way that I'm either going to pay current Samsung prices or go back on contract.
I'm not a big user of the "smart" aspects of a 'phone and I really don't need a camera that outstrips Hubble for something that might occasionally be deployed as a hand-held scanner so the whole concept of paying more for a 'phone than a laptop is kind of ridiculous to me when 'phone calls, texts, an alarm clock, a browser and the ability to run a handful of apps are the only real requirements.
For me (and I suspect the majority of users) 'phones hit the "all you'll ever need" level a good while ago - does being the latest thing really offer any benefit other than being the latest thing? I suspect not. Old and Chinese could well be the way ahead!
Slogans aren't solutions.

I haven't regretted it; they've all worked fine -- at a total cost of around EUR500, rather than closer to EUR2000.
[edit] And DX is very hot on customer service -- don't tell them, but one of the phones I broke sort-of didn't look like I broke it, and they gave me a full refund within a couple of days of my returning it. [/edit]

My Windows phone is nearing 5 y/o and was in perfect shape until a few weeks ago when it fell out of my jacket pocket and cracked the display almost identical to what you describe. The good news is I just saw that the new ones are going for $120. Why would anyone pay $600 for a new phone?
