By now I thought this was established fact or at the minimal for it to be considered malware.
There are good things about it, several even yet I still hold off on upgrading because I have enough trouble with w10 at work.

mate, I was going to say 'you're special' but no, we all know the myriad of hardware, drivers etc that can cause issues like this
- It would be interesting I guess to ascertain what % of people with issues are new installs running on new virgin purpose hardware for example vs upgrades etc

I'm on hardware made for Windows 7, a Lenovo T520i. Upgrading to Windows 10 was no problem, and Windows 10 upgrades have been no problem. Windows now even has generic drivers for the laptop's features that do a better job than its own.

My problem was with the Anniversary Update, that every day for six months tried to install itself.
Every day it failed and rolled back - a process that took about an hour.
Even worse, it removed my Shutdown and Restart options, replacing them with 'Update and Shutdown' and 'Update and Restart'.
I'm surprised it didn't replace Sleep with 'Update and Sleep'.
So any reboot was taking an hour.
Then, mysteriously, last week when I was on the point of formatting the drive, it succeeded.
The machine started off as Win8, then went Win8Pro -> Win8.1Pro -> Win10Pro, so was probably a more difficult update than most.
Even so, it was a complete PITA, but now seems OK.

Same here with a certain security update, but it failed after 5 minutes, paused for 5 minutes and tried again. I have disabled some services to prevent auto updates completly. But after reading your post, I guess I will give it a try again.
Wish me luck ...

That's very simple. I had installed Win7 when the whole updating circus began. It told me that I would get no forced updates unless I activate windows. So I did not activate it.

Ah, the memories! My first laptop came with ME. It would blue screen 2 or 3 times a day, especially when working in Visual Studio 6. It taught me to code in short bursts and save frequently! Finally, a friend introduced me to W2K and the nightmares were over. I liked W2K so much that I mostly skipped XP.

I had a worn and old PC, pentium 166 MMX, 64 MB of RAM and a motherboard so old it could support no more than a S3 Virge 3D as video card - but that one died years before and I was stuck with a Trident video card with 1 mb of VRAM.
With Win98 SE it blue-screened about 3/4 times a week while with ME it bluescreened less than 10 times in the months I used it. Win2k was incompatible with many of the games I played and with most of the hardware I had at home (a very ancient Genius scanner which was thought for Win 3.1 and had its 16 bit driver embedded in its own management program).
I found it a little slower than 98 but aestethically more pleasant, easier to use and more stable.

Please allow me to offer you the counter point: While I sympathize with the OP and other people who struggle with Win 10, I have used it from the start, updated it regularly and only use Edge. I have had very few issues in more than a year. I did disable pop-up ads in Edge and I further suppress ads with the Windows HOSTS file. So as far as I am concerned, it is humming along nicely.

I started using it back in January and so far have had no issues. Chrome works great. My only issue would be the inability to turn off, or even configure, Windows Update. On my Windows 7 box, I had it set to "download but not install" so that I could decide if an update was needed. Not a showstopper, but it shouldn't take that control away from me.

Last night I noticed that Edge was missing.
Then I noticed the Store was missing.
Did all the steps MS says to do to fix things like that....nope. Still missing.
Ah, well, I need to reinstall anyway, since I got a new motherboard with an M.2 drive I'll use for "C:".
But that's not the point.

I probably would not notice them missing in years.
