30... wow ... hard to remember that time!
Enjoy every single moment!
My big "5" is coming dangerously close... Will celeb in Vegas in a few years. At the WSOP. I already won way more than the the buy-in in my poker-career, so the money is there, and on my 50th I will just go to the counter, slap the money on the table and tell 'em "count me in!"
Yeah... my big showdown
Enjoy your trip - at least every 10 years a big one has to be! Good thing and happy birthday

Sounds like fun! I took my first cruise (western Caribbean) a little over two months ago. It was by far the most relaxing week I've had in years...due to the sweet fact that I didn't receive one email, text message, or even a phone call for almost a week!
Enjoy yourself and enjoy the company of your family! Bon voyage!

I envy your relations with your grandparents - the best of mine offered money to my mother to have an abortion and get away from my father when she was pregnant with me.

Good morning!
Maybe some of you remember my story: Working with professional artists[^]
Well... today is the day! In roughly 14 hours I will sit on-stage behind a drum kit and I will have to play live-on-stage a song together with the band!
I am so damned nervous... couldn't sleep well, trained the song over and over and over again... I am close to the point that "I can't hear it anymore! Arrghh"
All my friends, family and even lots of my colleagues at work will be there tonight... oh man... if I crush this... I'll dig a hole and jump in!
Luckily it's a rather small gig, not really a pure "friends&family" show but we are not on an open air stage, we play in a club/bar tonight, so the amount of people is limited. At least there will not be ten thousands of people watching me fail
I will post the video tomorrow if that's ok and then I'll also post the link to the app so you can take a look at the work the band and I did together.
For now, I have two things that I want to ask and tell:
First, what would you do? Imagine you are in my situation. You are about to do one of those once-in-a-lifetime things and you know, lots of people will be watching. What's your "Plan B", if something goes wrong? I mean... I really don't want to break the song but especially when drumming and you are over-nervous, your perception changes, time has a different speed, you see some things in slomo... and "time" is EVERYTHING behind the drums... The guitarist told me, his best trick right before a gig is a beer 1 hour before they start, a second beer 45 minutes before, a third 30 minutes before... well I guess you see the algorithm... I think I will trust him and I will use the same trick
Second, more important:
The band and I have a problem. I can "only" do Android Apps. I don't own a Mac and probably never will, I never had an iPhone but there still plenty iPhone users out there.
We are looking for someone (preferrably in Central Europe, but today on this planet, physical location doesn't matter that much) who would like to join us and port the App to iOS.
But I want to make one thing clear: There is no money involved. It is a Fan-Project, I did it for free for the Band because I damned LOVE their music, and anyone who ports this to iOS will do it for free, for the fun of it too. Are you someone who would be interested in that project?
Android is live, so there are no surprises, a quite simple server-file-format for the content files, the app is a more-or-less-sophisticated parser for content files, plays youtube-videos, shows lyrics.
It's not a technical nightmare, it's straight forward. I can give extensive docs about the format, and this should be possible in a short time (prob less than 100 hrs) in your free time.
Anyone interested to be part of a Fan Project? Your skills should cover: Async web requests, embed youtube videos, background checks (once a day) for new content, show notification.
You need to have an active developer account with apple and you will/may/must publish the app under your account/your name. THE APP IS YOURS AND STAYS YOURS. No Ads allowed. This is a free-fan-app with no monetarization background.
Your benefits would definitely be that you will meet the band (if you are luckily located in Vienna, Austria, Central Europe, Planet Earth, Milky way ) and join them in the studio, maybe even play along with them if you know how to play an instrument or if you can sing. Oh, and if you speak German, at least a little bit, it would help too
Leave me a reply if you are interested.
Cheers,
Mike

Might be worth a post here as well: Collaboration / Beta Testing Discussion Boards[^] - it doesn't move as fast as the lounge, which will page this out of sight in a day.
(I can't help: I know sod-all about iOS except it's an annoying OS to use if you are familiar with any other one...)

Start with plan B: wear a mask or something, if you screw up nobody knows it's you, if you don't you can take the mask off
As for the mac app: I meet all the requirements except one: don't have any apple product, so sorry can't help.
On a (more) serious note: good luck in 11ish hours. "Break a leg" as the saying goes

Just came back from my drum teacher. Looking forward - everything's cool. The first two beer are in my belly-tank. Now a quick shower, and then head on to the sound check. Starts in 2 hrs.
So I am off now for the rest of the day - keep posting.
More from me tomorrow.
Cheers, Mike

Yeah, seeing that plume of water right when the cameras froze, and hearing all the "ooooh's" in the background, I didn't have much hope!
And given that the satellite was manufactured by Space Systems/Loral, some software I wrote for them a couple years ago that does end-of-life failure analysis on the switch rings was probably used for the analysis.

Not losing the video feed on barge landings is the exception not the rule. Off hand Sunday's landing is the only one I recall that didn't drop for a few seconds. It's a satellite uplink due to the distance from shore; which means it's vulnerable to the exhaust plume blocking the signal or excess vibrations of the barge causing it to drop lock.

Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?
