I read again your post more carefully. Now it seems to be your company's policies which restrict you from using XPS viewer. So why to blame MS for this

Because when I couldn't open them I did a quick search XPS in Windows 10 and I got a lot of links saying that it was removed.
German:
Windows 10: XPS-Viewer installieren - COMPUTER BILD[^]
Windows 10 kann XPS erzeugen aber nicht anzeigen - Administrator[^]
English:
How to access XPS Viewer in the Windows 10 April 2018 Update | Windows Central[^]
Quote: Now, starting with the April 2018 Update (version 1803), Microsoft is finally retiring support for the file format and removing the XPS Viewer app on new installations.
So... chaging from Windows 7 to Windows 10 a couple of weeks ago and then things not working plus those infos in the net... occam's razor = MS is guilty.
Trying to add the XPS Viewer myself, and not being able... IT in my company is guilty.

I can feel with you but...

... it looks like it is not MS it's the policy of your company.
[Edit]
Made a new VM with W10/2004 before some hours (only because of your post, took at least one hour ) and had no problem to add XPS viewer

But can you open the XPS files too?
0x01AA wrote: it looks like it is not MS it's the policy of your company. Well, as I said, I didn't found it in the PC and several places saying Microsoft had taken it away...
0x01AA wrote: and had no problem to add XPS viewer That's something I never accused microsoft for it... I know that this one is on the IT department

GREAT TRUTHS LITTLE CHILDREN HAVE LEARNED
No matter how hard you try, you can’t baptize a cat.
When mom is mad at dad, don’t let her brush your hair.
If your sister hits you, don’t hit her back. They always catch the second one.
Never ask your 3-year old brother to hold a tomato.
You can’t trust dogs to watch your food . . .
Don’t sneeze when someone is cutting your hair.
Never hold a Dust-Buster and a cat at the same time.
You can’t hide a piece of broccoli in a glass of milk.
Don’t wear polka-dot underwear under white shorts.
The best place to be when your sad is Grandpma’s lap.
GREAT TRUTHS ADULTS HAVE LEARNED
Raising teenagers is like nailing jello to a tree.
Wrinkles don’t hurt.
Families are like fudge . . . mostly sweet but with a few nuts.
Today’s mighty oak is just yesterday’s nut that held its ground.
Laughing is good exercise. It’s like jogging on the inside.
Middle age is when you choose your serial for the fiber and not the toy.
GREAT TRUTHS ABOUT GROWING OLD
Growing old is mandatory; growing up is optional.
Forget the health food. I need all the preservatives I can get.
When you fall down, you wonder what else you can do while you are down there.
You’re getting old when you get the same sensation from a rocking chair that you once got from a Roller-Coaster.
It’s frustrating when you know all the answers but nobody bothers to ask you the questions.
Time may be a great healer, but it’s a lousy beautician.
Wisdom comes with age, but sometimes age comes alone.

Heh,
Just a coincidence... but when I saw your puzzle I thought of the old tulip device driver written by Donald Becker[^] back when he was working at the Goddard space flight center. At one time it was the most used ethernet device driver in the world. At one point SMC, Linksys, D-Link, US Robotics and dozens of other manufacturers were all using the DEC 'Tulip' chipset. After that I would say that the rtl8139 became the dominate consumer chipset for a number of years.
