That's not quite true. If you want to have your configuration backed up and be able to roam it, you need a Microsoft Account (formerly Live ID), which can use any email address (my MS account's email address is a gmail account, though I'm moving away from gmail at this point). And I know you can create accounts that are strictly local -- no need to sign in with your MS Account.

It went horribly wrong when he offered to show the other man his pawn collection.

News reads: ...Mr O'Gorman was attacked following a row over the movement of a piece of a chessboard. Clearly must have been the knight, because the guy went over the top murdering his opponent

Was it a black knight to remember?
Not like they were horsing around! He killed a man for King's sake...

The perp also claims to have eaten the victims heart. According to a colleague one lung is reported missing in some of the pathology briefs.
I'm thinking he was going for the insanity defence, and not sure if there ever even was a chess game...

Don't know if you've found it, but...
This: Epson iPrint[^] lets you print directly to a networked Epson printer from an Android phone or tablet. Works with my Nexus 7 / BX305FW combo, event though the BX family isn't on the compatibility list.
Means I don't have to fire up the PC to print recipes from the internet / NAS for Herself...cool.

I got an USB printer which I have connected to the Network using a Raspberry Pi, and the printing works from any device I own (Surface Tablet, iMac, Windows-Devices), thanks to CUPS.
