Yes. For whatever their faults they may have (and name me one organisation of anything like a comparable size with fewer) they're alright by me. I for one wouldn't be where I am, wouldn't have the career I have, were it not for the free products Microsoft has made available, which got me started - the free versions of Visual Studio are immensely powerful tools, really. And they've open sourced an awful lot of their products. I've got no real arguments with them as a company. (But I do wish they'd reinstate the "Download updates but allow me to choose when to install them" option...)

You missed my intention... What I was hinting, that Microsoft neither good or bad, and never was... It's a company for profit... So when Microsoft ruled the internet it wasn't because of bad-behaviour (or at least not worst then others), but because they had something to sell to all of us... The same today with Amazon... They taking over cloud because we choose their service, and Amazon not undermining the competitors becasue Amazon is bad, but because it is a... competition to win...

Hmmm,
Actually Microsoft has also been working in the area of identifying 'correct information' through the MARCO project[^]. I have not looked at the training dataset in a few years but it has many links back to codeproject.com ... some QA and forum posts in the training dataset[^].
So don't be surprised when Cortana is repeating your codeproject.com Q/A answer word-for-word when queried. Let's just hope your answer was actually correct! A simplified explanation... the algorithm they use searches for multiple sources giving basically the same answer to determine the probability of being correct.

Frankly I don't see what the big deal is. They are just joining a host of other companies like target, home depot, equifax etc... pioneering the next tech disruption. You've heard of the open source community right? Meet the new open data community. What you have is ours, and what we have is everyone elses. Quite frankly I'm surprised they took so long to hop on the bandwagon.
