Since our initial launch one year ago, 2 million developers have installed VS Code. Today, we’re excited to report that more than 500,000 developers actively use VS Code each month. They grow up so fast, don't they?

Kite wants to change this by connecting text editors to the Internet and pulling in data from GitHub, language manuals and other sources. Save time with "need codez plz"

Only a moron or rookie (synonymous right?) would do this. He should get out of tech immediately if for no other reason than not maintaining bare metal restore image backups which would make his mistake much ado about nothing, much less misusing rm. Unbelievable.

We are all open sourcerors now. While open source used to be a cabal of early adopters, today's world is awash in open source code, written by...everyone. Did someone copy my Subversion repository to the internet again?

Today's open sourcer is tomorrow's open maintenance sourcer.

Because they backup on the cloud.

The number of attacks that exploited previously unknown software vulnerabilities more than doubled in 2015 as hackers raced against security defenders to find effective ways to infect end users with malware, according to a recently released report. I thought getting rid of Flash would solve all this mess?

For most business websites and applications, reliability is something that’s handled a bit by the developers, a bit by Q/A, and a bit by operations. At Google, however, reliability is a way of life—at least, it is for the company’s site reliability engineers (SREs). "You better run all day, and run all night."

Microsoft is now offering up an online emulator for you to see the Windows 10 experience before you make any changes to your current operating system. Because if it works in PowerPoint, it will work on your machine
Not really an emulator, more of a clicky demo

What a WOTAM, the great unwashed (non technical people) will automatically move when they upgrade their current machine and an on line demo is not going to convince the tech savvy to move. Most corporates will probably move when they absolutely have to, 5 years from now!
Never underestimate the power of human stupidity

We still have XP on developement PCs and still sell it as default on machinery. Suffice to say that we started using Win2k in 2004 and WinXP in 2010. We're now moving to Win7 due to some big (VERY BIG) customers not accepting any machine with OS older than that.
Given that most of the hardware we use don't have drivers suitable for win7 and changing hardware means having to write a lot of code to manage it - ours are embedded systems so we cannot abstract from hardware, trust me on that - plus the implied testing/selection of the replacements and eventula change of vendors... we stick to what we know it works until ubi maior minor cessat.
