Terrible, terrible, terrible, ... article. If those languages define the future of coding, we are doomed. Nevertheless, I agree: "Its a real highlight that Java 8 got lambda expressions." Forget about Rust, Julia, F#!

Some Doofus wrote: That's why D is being built
Is being built? It has been out for like ten years now; it's almost old now.
I have dabbled with it, I even have some D files dated 2003-11-07. In the end, I chose to stick with C#; it does what I need.

Earlier this year, Google announced that it would still support Chrome on Windows XP through the end of 2015. Google also announced today, Windows Vista and Mac OS X 10.6, 10.7 and 10.8. will also no longer be supported “since these platforms are no longer actively supported by Microsoft and Apple.” OK, now it's time to upgrade (to Weven)

For anyone wondering why Vista will be losing support at the same time as XP: About a year ago the number of people testing pre-release builds on Vista fell too low to reliably catch bugs in that build; as a result Google stopped doing a Vista specific build and has been just giving Vista users the XP build instead.
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, waging all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?

More information about Microsoft's once-secret Midori operating system project is coming to light thanks to some of the now-dispersed team members. Too many Electric Popsicles, not enough code
This isn't all the great news though: "although we started with C# and .NET, we were forced to radically depart in the name of security, reliability, and performance"

Apple CEO Tim Cook believes that the iPad Pro spells the end of the line for the PC. Because I have work to do?
The end of the PC happens almost as often as the Year of Linux

Because squinting eyes, being forced to type watching every single letter instead of feeling the keys with the hands, not being able to use two hands to do different things (mouse + keyboard) are soooo much convenient. And the carpal syndrome and cervical inflammations that accompanies long session with my tablet are so nice I can't have enough.
Also developement tools have plenty of space in a 7" display, that still forces me to put the whole giant in a bag (very different from a notebook). And the expandibility is great, I mean, you can change graphic board or add new peripherals so easily...

Apple has lost their sense of innovation and laser-like focus, and I wish they would stop trying to ride the fraying coattails of Steve and his invincible Reality Distortion Field. Tim just cannot pull it off like Steve.
Deeper than that, Apple product have lost their shine. More and more things no longer "just work". Things break, things go down, things just don't make sense.
A big iPad is nice if you need more screen real estate. A pen? OK, I can see it's use, but Steve is spinning in his grave. However, I'll need a PC because
- I don't like typing on a glass screen. I prefer keyboards
- I don't like staring down at a screen, I like a vertical monitor that doesn't give me osteoarthritis in the neck
- I like plugging in peripherals, like a USB cord to charge my iPhone every single night.
Mainly I need an operating system that's compatible with the apps I use. The Surface Pro is compatible with my laptop and my PC. Is his iPad pro compatible with apps from MacOSX? No they aren't.
Sorry, Apple, but Microsoft is looking way more innovative than you are these days. And that makes me sad. I'm happy for Microsoft - I use their tools 18hrs a day - but I'm sad because they no longer have anyone to chase, to push them, to keep them honest, to keep them up to date.
His whole "The PC is dead" is dumb. PCs have evolved, like dinosaurs into birds. We have a CPU, some RAM, some persistent storage, and a power supply. Whether that's in a box, a laptop, a Surface tablet, or a whopping big iPad makes no difference. They are all still computers. Take the iPad pro and add your smart keyboard, and then your Magic Mouse, and you have a convertible 2-in-1, which was just a laptop, which, really, was just a Kaypro[^]
cheers

Because I need to get away from the computer some times?
Because I like to have access to the innards?
Because I burn DVDs some times?
Because I like having several large HDDs?
Because I like having several big monitors?
Because I need a database server? With no monitor?
Because I like having a KVM switch to switch between systems?
Because my old video camera requires FireWire?
Because I like having 3.5" and 5.25" floppy drives available, just because?
Because I like having a MODEM, just because?

It may be news, but definitely not for us...
Remember? We are those who code! We need blind typing (so keyboard feedback is essential), we need several monitors to gain space for all our tools while developing...Mouse is essential too...And we need a break sometimes...
And not to mention that the cost of the iPad, even without those peripherals, is way too expensive...
Skipper: We'll fix it.
Alex: Fix it? How you gonna fix this?
Skipper: Grit, spit and a whole lotta duct tape.
