Win XP Pro, VS 2005 SP1
Just had a strange Data Execution Prevention error after upgrading my ClickOnce app. Then Explorer crashed with a memory corruption error and non-killable dialog box. I eventually killed it on the Process tab in Task Manager. Task bar and icons all went. Logged off and on and everything was back to normal. Ran the ClickOnce app. and it worked. Has anyone else experienced this? Or was it just coincidence.
Previous ClickOnce upgrades had been OK. The only difference is that with this one Visual Studio had not auto-incremented the version number initially. So I had to manually increment it before publishing.

I need to write a debugger which will execute an process and I need to get notification when that process will write or modify any thing on the hard disk. Can we keep watch on any process for getting info when that process will write to hard disk? I have read something about "Win32 Debug API". Can any one guide me or give me any demo code for this?

I have created a Serializable class named "Student".

Also created a custom user control.
then i used the list<student> in the custom user control.
public class myControl : UserControl

List<student> students;

}
the controls is performing exact and there is no any compilation error.
but if i use this control on any form then designer view of that form vanished out and display this error.
Object of type 'System.Collections.Generic.List`1[WindowsControlLibrary1.Student]' cannot be converted to type 'System.Collections.Generic.List`1[WindowsControlLibrary1.Student]'.
Kindly help that why the designer view of this form vanished out.

I have a example.htm page I would like to be visible after windows XP have been locked, using Cttl-Alt-Del. There seem to be limitations on the file type that can be used, mainly pictures.
My htm document allows the display of live information from a server as a front end only, with no interactive access, which is what is required. But when the screen is locked or times-out after 5 mins and locks out I loose the display. The screen reverts back to the last know picture used or shows a blank page
I'm struggling as to where to look next for ideas, any help would be much appreciated.

It is just my opinion, but I don't think it can be done. When the computer is locked, pretty much most things get locked down. I would think your best bet would be to create a screen saver and display the info you want with the screen saver.

I've been looking at screensavers, but need an application that only looks at local computer files and links set by admin rights only. The application can not have any option to connect to the internet or intranet as this causes security issues.

at the buttin click event create an instance of current form and the form u want open..try sumthing like this
At button click event:
currentform form1=new currentform();
formToOpen form2=new formToOpen();
form1.hide();
form2.show();

I'm sorry, but that plain will not work. It creates a new Form1, which will have no bearing on the one that is visible.

You can call Hide() to hide the visible form, and then show form2 using ShowDialog() if you want a modal form ( I presume you do, why would you want a modeless form attached to an invisible form ? )
A better approach is to define both forms as user controls and put them on the one form, and just swap which one is visible.

I'm always nervous about the new technology becoming the next VB6. So what is the future for a new app being developed with Winforms and C#? I can see a long upgrade path for this product and I have no interest in making a radical UI change anytime soon. Sure, I know about WPF, but the timing isn't right for my use of that platform.

Well, VB6 was around for a fair while, and so has Winforms now been.
If you don't want to use WPF then WinForms is the only real option apart from C++/MFC ( which is kind of dead ). WPF is what will replace WinForms.

Well, your best bet is to have good separation between business logic and presentation. Then if GUI technology evolves hopefully you'll have minimal work.

Windows Forms will be around for a long time, since it is an integral part of the .NET Framework. That being said, there are no new innovations planned for the WinForms technology as the new, preferred UI platform is WPF. The drawback to WPF right now is that the tools aren't available yet to make development as easy as it is for WinForms. The other concern for WPF is that it isn't yet applicable to every application. There are some things that are just better done in WinForms right now.
The best approach is to separate the business logic and the UI as much as possible. This will allow you to gradually migrate to WPF from WinForms when it makes sense. Also, you can combine WinForms and WPF in the same application, with a few technical limitations on the interop.

hello every body,
after i purchased a component for .net 2005, i used the clickonce technologie for making my project setup.when i am trying to install my project in the client side i can't the error message is: some dll are missed in the global assembly cache GAC .
can any body help me to install the project in the client side without installing these components.

Hi tantoun.
To me it now looks like You want to install your application to your clients without having to install this component that you've bought.
My question to you is: Will your clients be able to run your application without this component?
If not I think that you just have to figure a way to install this component (a dll I guess) in your clients gac.

then use the progressbar control
and explore it's propertiex
anyhow progressbar is the control to move your text. in it
