Change the number of Most Recently Used projects in the options dialog. The affects the list of projects in the file menu also.

Can't manage to P/Invoke that Win32 API in .NET? Why not do interop the wiki way!

How would I go about using the .NET Framework to get and set the Master and Wave Volume of the user's computer? Can it be done with .NET, or is Direct Sound required to do this? Any leads in the right direction would be appreciated.

You can P/Invoke waveOutSetVolume() to set the volume of a waveform audio output device.
[DllImport("winmm.dll")]
public static extern int waveOutSetVolume(IntPtr hwo, UInt32 dwVolume);
...
waveOutSetVolume(IntPtr.Zero, 0xFFFFFFFF);
... This sets both channels of master volume to maximum.
For special target devices you might have to use other WaveOut-functions, but they're all documented in the platform SDK.

hi friends,
heard that MTS is not supported in .NET Framework. I guess .NET framework supports COM+ runtime services so how come MTS is not supported ??

Hi ali
I guess your are using incorrect version of MTS.If you are using 2000 Professional surely i will not support for COM+.For deploying COM+ components use 2003 server or Latest version of MTS(Non NT flavour)

Are you sure? Windows 2000 Professional does have support for COM+, and .NET components can be published in the COM+ catalog using the System.EnterpriseServices namespace.
COM+ is "COM + MTS". MTS was introduced in NT 4.0, and became part of the COM+ services in Windows 2000.

COM+ is "COM + MTS". MTS was introduced in NT 4.0, and became part of the COM+ services in Windows 2000 under the MS DTC (distributed transaction coordinator).
So, NT MTS (version 1.0) is not supported, but 2000 COM+ (DTC) is.

I want to start a project in VisualC++, with VS .NET 2003. Is there any way to make the app work on a machine that has .NET framework not installed ? If not is there a VC++ (or higher) with no .NET ?
|

Yes. Just make sure you select one of the unmanaged project types, from the ATL, MFC or Win32 categories. Obviously you can't use any .NET features.

is there a default mail server reference string using .net. I have a little app that I send email on, but I want to ensure that it always obtains the correct mail server.
If there is not a default mail server, how would a person determine the mail server that is being used?
Thanks for the help

Hi,
Since assembly compiles in IL, the binary reusability paradigm introduced by COM is no longer alive.
Is an assembly a healthier substitute of classic COM infrastructure ??? There also lies a performance trade-off in using assemblies as they are JUST in TIME compiled while COM components are pre-compiled.
What are the major benefits of using assemblies over COM ?? I've never encountered DLL HELL issues then why should i use assemblies ??
Thanks,
Regards,
Hatim Ali.

Aren't you lucky.

If it concerns you that much why not just run the assemblies through ngen first and compile them in to a native format in advance.

According to Don Box .NET was originally called COM3

Hi,
I want to find out whether some application is trying to access the network resource like internet (HTTP,SMTP POP,FTP etc etc. –any sort of network resource usage) or any other network resource like mapped drives,VPN etc.
I want to capture this .
Secondly I want to determine which application is trying to access that resource.
Specifically in .NET , is there such support for firewall packet sniffing in .NET

Hi,
.NET is not a jack of all trades You will need to implement it yourself using WinSock layered providers, which is not an easy thing to implement

i'm looking for an article showing how a key pair is being generated, so how the public key token is, and eventually about "binary attack" to signed .net assembly (e.g. editing the public key token using hex editor) - for educational purposes only .
10x in advance

thanks, but what about how to manually generate a token for the public key?
|
|
|
|
|
Sn.exe computes the token using a hash function from the public key. I don't know what the specific hash function is, but it should be easy to find out through experimentation. Probably either MD5 or SHA1.

I've answered your questions because this is for educational purposes, and also because knowing these things does not in fact allow the "attack" of the signed assembly.
To verify the assembly's digital signature, the CLR uses the assembly's public key to decrypt the assembly's digital signature, resulting in the original, calculated hash. In addition, the CLR uses the information in the assembly's manifest to dynamically generate a hash. This hash value is then compared with the original hash value. These values must match, or we must assume that someone has tampered with the assembly. - from .NET Framework Essentials, By Hoang Lam, Thuan L. Thai.

I'm wondering if there is a way to make customised code snippets with the VS.NET code editor?
I'm looking for something similar to Textpad's clip library.

Are there any free tools with which I can build a setup for my dotnet application?
