Hi, i'm having problems with the App.config file and the settings contained in it.
The purpose of the App.Config is to enable users to change values that the program loads with, without re-compiling the app.
I am however having a problem with this in DLL's -
This is a setting in the config file:
<br />
<br />
<connectionStrings><br />
<add name="TTMPSObjectLayer.My.MySettings.TTMPSConnectionString"<br />
connectionString="/* Connection */"<br />
providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" /><br />
</connectionStrings><br />
<br />
If i change the connection string, it should point to a different database, however, the setting value - stored in the My.Settings object, has the following entry, which completely ignores it.
<br />
<Global.System.Configuration.ApplicationScopedSettingAttribute(), _<br />
Global.System.Diagnostics.DebuggerNonUserCodeAttribute(), _<br />
Global.System.Configuration.SpecialSettingAttribute(Global.System.Configuration.SpecialSetting.ConnectionString), _<br />
Global.System.Configuration.DefaultSettingValueAttribute("/* Connection */")> _<br />
Public ReadOnly Property TTMPSConnectionString() As String<br />
Get<br />
Return CType(Me("TTMPSConnectionString"),String)<br />
End Get<br />
End Property<br />
The DLL is for a WebProject, and i need to be able to configure the Querystring. What do i need to do to do this?
Cheers
Tris
Edit: The reason i need the connection string, is that i have a library for each database containing all the relevant DataTables / Data Table Adapters, and i need to be able to change the database they point to without recompiling.

It seems that all libraries defer their configuration values to the master app.config / web.config in the invoking application.
Just add the relevant settings to the main one and it will override any other settings.

.DLL libraries don't get their own app.config files. Like then name suggests, it's an Application Configuration file, not a library or .DLL config.
.DLL's are loaded into the process space on the application that's using them. They become part of the application, not different than if the .DLL code was written directly into the app itself. That's why they use the app's config file.

If you are writing a class library then class library wraps the app.config file into Settings.Designer.cs which keeps all your information. So if you change the connection string in app.config then you need to synchronize this with setting file. This in turns updates and generates new Settings.Designer.cs then you should compile it. After this only you should referenced this in your project else older connections string will be taken.

Hey,
I want to generate password which takes a string( 8 digit hexadecimal with system date as input to password) and this string to be passed to Rijndael ecryption to get the output(encrypted string) of fixed length(15 characters maximum).
Is it possible to generate the encrypted string of fixed length in Rijndael encryption?
If anybody knows pls let me know.
Thanks

This is a somewhat canonical example, and AJAX book or website is bound to have an example. Or, you can use ATLAS, which wraps it all for you. It's not efficient, but it IS easy.

The amount of code you need, is too much for a forum post. Read some articles that give code, there are plenty. Or buy a book, "AJAX in Action" is a great book, and it has code for this.

There is cobol.net and fortran.net. Both are very expensive.

There are .NET versions of FORTRAN and COBOL. How well they run existing code, I don't know. I do know they are more expensive than VS.NET, you'd really need them, we're talking thousands of dollars. At least, the last time I saw an ad. Did you try google ?

First thing you need, is legal rights to the broadcast.

You can't do this. You don't have, and won't be able to get, permission to re-broadcast content that you don't own.
It can be done with other content that you DO own. You're going to need a streaming server, like Microsoft's Media Services, to encode and serve up the stream. Then you only need to open the stream in Windows Media Player on the client side to view it.

You've already asked this question and have gotten the correct answer. Asking it again, won't change that answer.

Hey there.
Does anyone know where to get a good detailed example of how to set up a DirectSound capture buffer, Device (including Line (Mic, Line in Etc..)),
Record to capture buffer, Save buffer contents to Riff, Wav file, Etc...
I've been searching for days now and found nothing decent on the subject.
I have the example from DirectX 9 SDK, But it does not say how to select device line.
Thanks to anyone that can help.

Hello,
I've written an ActiveX for IE in VS2005 C# .Net 2.0.
It supports RfID and GPS via COM-Port.
On my machine it runs great.
Now I wrote a setup with VS 2005.
I think I'm to set "vsdrpCOMSelfReg" for registering.
But it doesn't work.
It accepts only "vsdrpCOM"
After installation I called it in IE. It dosn't work.
When IE is open and I want to uninstall it by setup - Setup say "no, is in use."
I think, I'm not so far from target?!?
Can anyone help me?
I didn't find an good artikel in the internet.
Thanks a lot.
Additional:
In my IE I see the ActiveX in AddOns, but as File is listed "mscoree.dll"
What's that?
"Herausgeber" / Publisher is emty.
Maybe, it helps you.
Thanks a lot.

Hello,
There are times that my application exits by itself (without any windows dialog prompting a microsoft error). This does not always happen even when doing the exact same thing.
At first I'm thinking it could be a memory leak, but at times even just right after booting the pc and running the application, the error would occur.
I'm at a loss on identifying the cause. Help?
Thanks,
Rafferty

I'd like to store global application settings (for machine, not for the user). My first tought was to use IsolatedStorage with following parameters:
<br />
IsolatedStorageFile.GetStore<br />
(IsolatedStorageScope.Machine | IsolatedStorageScope.Domain | IsolatedStorageScope.Application, null, null);<br />
But
1. I can't get proper application identity to work. So how can I assure, that it will be shared between different application versions?
2. I have changed Application to Assembly for test purposes, but configuration wasn't shared between users
How do you store sensitive infos for the application?
Is the registry the only place to share this data?
H.
