Hi All. Can someone please help. I am using vs 2003 and SQL 2000. I have to insert about 50000 records into sql. I have tried to use a tread to do this, but when the user say closes the app while the second thread is still running, the app is closed, but the thread is still running and still inserting rows into the database. The code that i used to create a thread is as follows: Thread t1 = new Thread(new ThreadStart(ThreadLoadingData)); t1.Name = "ThreadLoadingData"; t1.Start(); I used the tread in the same class. In ThreadLoadingData i go to different classes for inserting the data. Thera are 5 tables that i must insert into, each one i use a different class. Now i also need to display a progress bar for this, how do i go about solving this problem

Well to close the thread :

t1.Abort ();

This causes a ThreadAbortException you just catch it in the method of the thread (in this case "ThreadLoadingData").
When the exception is caught you just stop uploading.

For the rest, the progress stuff, there is a special class in .net that handles this, I don't have the time to look, but I suggest you take a look online for this in Google or some other searchengine.

I think that there is a usefull articale in the threading section its title is: "Wait for threads in a ThreadPool object to complete" By gtamir.

If you want to kill the thread when the user closes the app, simply set System.Threading.Thread.IsBackground[^] to true.

I want to convert VS 2005 C# project and a dll to VS 2003. It has not used any framework 2.0 libraries.

If it has no 2.0 libraries then you should be able to just import the files into VS2003 or a suitable environment and compile for .NET 1.x. Or you could have a hunt for the extension to MSBuild which allows the .NET 1.x frameworks to be targeted for building. Although this way you will have to build manually and cannot do so in VS.

As of how to accomplish this, have you ever tried Google?
Failing that try Badger | [badger,badger,badger,badger...]

Yes I tried google, but could not find a proper tutorial. Actually I am a novice to C#. Does MSBuild convert 2005 dll to 2003? If you could you pls give me more details or proper tutorial?

You can decompile it and rebuild into vs2003. You can use the program Reflector and the plugin FileGenerator

Download the program Reflector (http://www.aisto.com/roeder/dotnet/Download.aspx?File=Reflector) and later download and install the filegenerator plugin (http://www.jasonbock.net/JB/Code/FileGenerator.zip) in the program.

Open Reflector, and open the dll with it. Then, select the dll, clic on tools and choose Generate files.. It's easy

I downloaded reflector,and file generator. How can I integrate file generator with reflector. There is no file generator in tool menu.
