VSTS requires a server running Windows Server, not XP or Vista. You also need a SQL Server Enterprise license. Sharepoint also doesn't come with VSTS.

Thank you for your reply.
So, what would be the best solution for a very small size version control system which fits on my laptop and that can be run on SQL Server Express without requiring IIS or may be requiring IIS ? I would love to get a source control software which can be integrated to Visual Studio 2008. I have heard about Fortress, but I am not sure if that supports VS 2008. Would you please give me any idea ?

Most things integrate with Visual Studio. I still think that Sourcesafe is fine for the sort of setup you're talking about.

Good evening all,
I have a form with a number of controls on it. In particular - some buttons and a 'TabControl'
In the form designer, when i double click on a button, i can code an event to fire, like below,
private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
}
I would like t be able to do the same when the user clicks on one of the tabs of my TabControl, however i can seem to find a way to trigger an event like i do with a button.
For example - if i double cick on the tab in the designer view - nothing happens.
Can anyone help ?
Regards
Neil

Check out the events in the properties window for the control. You have click, doubleclick, etc.

Hi,
TabControl.SelectedIndexChanged is the right event for you; you may want to include a switch in its handler if you need to run different code snippets for different tab pages.

Thank you Luc,
So can you please give me some guidance as to how i would then use this to make some.....labels or checkboxes appear for instance ?
I have trid a few things but it seems quit a dfficult control to use.

As John pointed out, the easiest way to handle a TabControl in Visual Designer is to create one UserControl per tabpage; i.e. first create the UserControls you want, then create a TabControl on your form and instantiate the UserControls on the individual pages.
An alternative, not that popular though, is to create the Controls by run-time code.

unfortunatley i'm completely new to programming so all that means very little to me.
Its my first time trying a tabControl, i have created & tested all my buttons to go on it, i just needed other things to appear on the form when user chose the varius tabs on the form.
I'm kind of thinking i've bitten off more than i can chew ?
I'll have a look for infon on 'UserControls' and see what i can find.
Many thanks
Neil

Hi,
You do not need UserControls if they are new to you: you can design a TabControl in Visual Designer without UserControls, just click on the tab to show an individual tab page (you may have to try a couple of times to get the page you want), then fill it as usual. IMO it is easier with UserControls though (only if you are used to them that is).

Hi Luc,
Sorry - i know this is dragging on a bit.
I have the tab control functional and populated with my controls already, what i want to do is make some other controls (check boxes etc) appear on the page when the user clicks on a tab.
I can code an event if i double click on the page of the tab (in designer) but that doesn't help work. I want the event to run when the user clicks on the tab. It's not the same as clicking on the tab page.
Hope this makes sense !

Clicking on any tab fires the SelectedIndexChanged event; so you should add a handler for that event, get the new tab page index from the SelectedIndex property, and act accordingly in your handler's code. I find myself adding a switch statement quite often in such a handler.
In order to add a handler, you can use Visual Designer, click the tab control, get its properties, get the events pane, and double-click the row for SelectedIndexChanged. That will create an empty handler, and generate the wiring for it. Or you can add it just by editing the code... (everything Designer does, you can code yourself also).

Has anyone suggested to you yet that you should put a UserControl on each tab page that contains that tab page's controls so you can have discreet access to all the controls on a given page?

Can I run different parts of the same application with different credentials? I need to change the credentials back and forth at runtime. Is this possible? What other reccommendations do you have?

|

Yes, you can - but why do you need to do this? There are very few circumstances where you should have to do this.

I am writing an application which reads files in a network of over 200 pcs--let's call this networkX. In order to read these files, the app will be installed on one of these pcs. The app also needs to grab data from a SQL Server which is on a different network--networkY. Therefore, when I am grabbing data from the sql server I have to first login to networkY, then to the sql server. Afterwards, the rest of the app will run under the credentials for networkX and read the files. Once all the files are read (actually some as it is threaded) then credentials will switch to networkY to dump the data and back and forth.
I don't know too much about networks, but the network admin told me this is the only feasible option.

Tell your network-administrator to create a new roaming user with the appropriate rights for both networks
Or would that count as "not feasible"?

<br />
void SomeFunction( array<Object^>^ &updatelist)<br />
The above function is written using in VC++ managed systax.
The equivalent of
<br />
array<Object^>^<br />
is Object[]<br />
I like to know what is the equalalent systax in C#.
Important: There is a address symbol before the argument name, which means passing an array by reference so that the array can be change from inside the function.
Any help is appreciated
Thank you

I believe this is what you are looking for:
void SomeFunction(ref object[] updateList) {
if(updateList == null) {
updateList = new object[10];
}
}

thank you for your suggession.
Actually I should rephrase my words. The VC++ function resides in a dll. when I tried to call this function from C# code, the intellisence showed me the following function signature in C#
<br />
void SomeFunction( object[]* obj);<br />
Now my question is ,how to pass a pointer to an array of object in C#.
Suppose I have the following array and I want to pass this array to the above function.
<br />
object[] obj = new object[4];<br />
This array will be modified in the dll and should reflect the modification in the C# program.
Thank you.

HI,all.
Today, when i want to get data from sybase table.
i have puzzled with a strang thing.
just like the title. when the program runs to the point, my program dipped into it. the program will not run to the next statement and also with no error threw out.
what is wrong? how could i get data from sybase table as i getting from oracle.
by the way,i could do insert,update,delete operating in my program.and one thing else,when i use oleDbDataReader to read data from sybase table, another problem happens,when i do "myReader.Close();".the same thing happens,the program will not go to next statement.
Here is my part codes:
public int LoadDataSetFromSYBASE(string sql, string tableName, ref DataSet objDataSet)
{
this.sybase_Connect();
int iCount = -1;
OleDbDataAdapter objOleDbDataAdapter = new OleDbDataAdapter(sql, this.sybase_con);
try
{
iCount = objOleDbDataAdapter.Fill(objDataSet, tableName);
}
catch(Exception e)
{
throw (new Exception("Error in LoadDataSetfromSYBASE method. " + e.Message));
}
finally
{
this.sybase_Disconnect();
}
return iCount;
}
public void LoadDataFromSYBASE(string sql,object obj)
{
using (OleDbConnection connection = new OleDbConnection(sybase_ConnectionString))
{
OleDbCommand command = new OleDbCommand(sql, connection);
connection.Open();
OleDbDataReader reader = command.ExecuteReader();
reader.Read();
obj=reader[0];
reader.Close();
}
}

Yes. You simply add a reference to it.
