I've used VB.NET 2003 Standard to create a form using the wizard.
On the form, I had a bound textbox - txtUnitOfMeasurement.
This was bound to an MS Access table, tblSuppliersProducts, and a numeric field called UnitOfMeasurement.
This worked fine.
I then upgraded to VB.NET 2005 Express, and swapped my textbox for a combo box, and added the following settings to the combo:
Data Bindings - SelectedValue = tblSupplierProductsBindingSource.UnitOfMeasurement
Data Source = tblUnitOfMeasurementBindingSource
Display Member = UnitOfMeasurement
Value Member = MeasurementID
This too is fine, on my experimental dummy first record - it saves my changes to the UnitOfMeasurement field in tblSuppliersProducts - proving, to me, that it is bound correctly. However, when I press 'Add', it retains my previous combo box choice (which isn't a huge problem) on the new record, but when I fill in the remaining fields, and press Save, I get an error message saying that tblSuppliersProducts.UnitOfMeasurement is null.
I am obviously not doing something properly in between changing my text box for a combo box, but I don't know what.
Can you help?

Is your combo box perhaps binding again, and reseting the data source ?

Thanks for your reply. I'll have to have a look.
Unfortunately, as I'm developing the app from home, I don't have access to it in my "real" job!
Another problem is the seemingly unnecessary lines of code that the form wizard throws in. I'm pretty new to all this, which makes it that bit harder for me to read what its done.
Oh well - a bit of debugging to do tonight, then!

Is it pssoble to use a VS.net wizard at runtim?
For example I want to use "TableAdapter Configuration Wizard" at runtime to generate Dataset.

The menu has nothing to do with it. You need to add menu items which call code to do these things.
The OpenFileDialog class is what you need to do a lot of this ( i.e. it's where you will start )

You mean open a database ? Set the MDB to be your data source in your data layer. I assume it's format is predefined, or will you just look through it dynamically ?

You're diving in a little too deep. However if you want to persist with this path, you should google on how to connect Access to VB.NET, you'll find more in depth answers than I can give here.

Hi All,
Is there anyway in which you can pause a timer function?
for example when a certain button (say pause) is pressed, the timer1 is paused, and then when a button (say restart) is pressed timer1 continues from when it was paused.

I don't believe so, there are only stop and start methods.

Same as the last time I answered this. Your dataset doesn't contain any tables. Have you looked at where the dataset is created, and checked that any data is being returned ?

Hi All,
Is there a way to intergrate a form onto another?
for example when a button is pressed in form1, form2 appears, however if I was to press another button in form1, form2 would still stay in the same place and be visible, regardless of the user doing activity on form1.

To open a form, use this: Form2.Show(), and then for Form2 to maintain visibility at all times, set the TopMost property: Form2.TopMost = True.

Why would form2 move if you pressed another button? Do you want it to stay on top of form1? Should it keep the same relative position? If you want form2 to stay on top you could set it's 'owner' property to form1. Form2 will then stay on top of form1 and will minizmize whenever it is minimized. If you want it to stay on top of all forms including other applications you could set it's 'topmost' property to true.

Yes. Create the form elements as a control, then you can place that control on a new form to make a form, or use it within your existing form, so that form2 appears within form1. You can also have a form appear at the bottom or right of an existing one, by simply changing the form size when a button is pressed, thus showing or hiding the area that has the form2 control on it.

Hi!
I've just crossed from VB6 to VB2005, and from ACCESS DB, to SQL, and have some stupid retard questions:
1. I have one form with 4 text boxes: barcode_textbox, id_textbox, name_textbox, stock_textbox and they are connected to database table called "PRODUCTS" , now i want when i enter a BARCODE or ID, to check if that BARCODE OR ID is already in database, and if it is, to automatically populate other text boxes with values of that products.
2. i want 2 datagrid on form, one is called "Customer" and the other "Sales", and when i click on one of the customer in datagrid, in the other datagrid i want to see all of the sales connected with that customer.
3. I don't understand something, but when i run my application from VB2005, i can't modify or add anything to my database, and when i run executable from \bin\debug it works fine???
I'm sorry for my bad English, but will appreciated any help.

1 - write a stored proc that takes the barcode and ID and returns a record if it exists. This would involve writing your own DB code, not using hte built in 'magic' stuff
2 - This is called a master-detail view, if you google that, you'll find heaps of examples
3 - not sure why that would be
It's called SQL Server, Access also uses SQL
