how do i retrieve data from sql and cut it to 20 characters to display it in a text box. The data in about 100 chatacters in the database but i only need 20.
Please help

Off the top of my head I'd say pull the data in as normal & perform editing on it using string methods.
Are you looking for a particular bit of string in the data you're pulling through? How do you know which 20 characters it is? The first 20? A bit more explanation please.

|
|

I am looking for the first 20 characters. from character 1 to 20.
Hope this is clear.

Assuming your reading the data as string, use the Substring method on your data e.g. txtResult.Text = strSQLData.Substring(0, 20) .

thank you.
It works perfect.

hi,
how can i save a word file into database and import that file into word and do editing and again save into the database
|
|
|
|
|
Wouldn't it be easier to save the Word files as is and just reference their paths/build a schema of the file system where they are stored? Your ability to edit & save the files would be much easier as well.

How can i create a document in VB.Net.
i have used ritch textbox and text boxes.
how the memo field contained in the database is placed in the ritchtextbox in a special format

Word will not retrieve documents out of a database. You'll have to write some mechanism to retrieve the document, save it to a temp file, open it in Word, wait for the user to finish editing it, resave it back to the temp file, then your app can put the edited copy back in the database.
It's FAR more managable to just save the document in a file system somewhere and save the path to that file in the database.

Amen to that, why does everyone want to create five extra steps to do something simple?

No idea over here. I don't even like putting images in a database just because of the bandwidth it takes, but I do realize that there is a need for it. But for Word documents?? Good luck searching them!

How can i make Demo(Trial) for Deployment program ?, i mean how can i determine a period so the program will not be accessible after the period expired?
|
|
|

All sorts of ways. They all have a few things in common - they need to store a time stamp, and that stamp needs to be hidden and left behind if the program is removed.
Oh, and because you're using .NET, they are all a waste of time, anyone can decompile your code and remove the section that enforces the demo.

As a sidebar - your thoughts on obfuscation?
I've read a few articles on it but never bothered putting into practice.

My app supports a piece of hardware, so I've never bothered. But, I think it's a good idea, I really should be doing it, too.

Can I use the registry to solve this problem ?
If yes please tell me how?
I mean, if I save a value in a register and update it on time(ex. Hour,Minute),and when we reache to specific value the program will not be accessible.

|
|
|

You can, sure. You can store the date the program is first run, and every time you run the program, load that date, and check how many days ago it was.

Hello!
I'm using vb.net with net 2.0.
Is there a way to play a midi sound file with a predefined tempo? I would like to make it possible for the user to adjust the tempo of a midi song.

I have a project, where I print my invoice with code like this:
<br />
With Printer<br />
.PaperSize = Papier: .ScaleMode = 6: .Orientation = Ausricht<br />
.CurrentY = RandOben<br />
.FontSize = 10<br />
If UCase(frmAdressverwaltung.txtNName.Text) = "BARVERKAUF" Then<br />
Zeile = ""<br />
For i = 1 To 6<br />
Printer.Print Zeile<br />
Next i<br />
Else<br />
If frmAdressverwaltung.optAnredeF.Value = True Then<br />
Zeile = "Frau"<br />
ElseIf frmAdressverwaltung.optAnredeH.Value = True Then<br />
Zeile = "Herr"<br />
ElseIf frmAdressverwaltung.optAnredeK.Value = True Then<br />
Zeile = ""<br />
ElseIf frmAdressverwaltung.optAnredeC.Value = True Then<br />
Zeile = "Firma"<br />
End If<br />
Zeile = Zeile & " " & frmAdressverwaltung.txtTitel.Text<br />
.CurrentX = Randlinks<br />
Printer.Print Zeile<br />
.FontBold = True<br />
.CurrentX = Randlinks<br />
Zeile = frmAdressverwaltung.txtNName.Text & " " & frmAdressverwaltung.txtVName.Text<br />
Printer.Print Zeile<br />
.FontBold = False<br />
Zeile = frmAdressverwaltung.txtStrasse.Text<br />
.CurrentX = Randlinks<br />
Printer.Print Zeile<br />
Printer.Print ""<br />
Zeile = frmAdressverwaltung.txtPLZ & " " & frmAdressverwaltung.txtOrt.Text<br />
.CurrentX = Randlinks<br />
Printer.Print Zeile<br />
Printer.Print ""<br />
End If<br />
The code goes over 100 lines in this way. - So I don't want to change the code. - Now I want to print also the logo and some text on tho the invoice
It is a bmp File with the logo & text & the rest ist transparency - I tried to this with the following code:
<br />
If GetSetting("VOPTNeu", "Firmendaten", "ReLogo") = "True" Then<br />
.PaintPicture LoadPicture(App.Path & "\rechnungslogo.bmp"), 2, 3, 130, 35<br />
.CurrentY = 52<br />
.CurrentX = Randlinks<br />
End If<br />
But this wan't work.
Please help - Hope you understand what I mean.
Yours faithfully

Hi Guys,

You'd have to owner draw stuff, I guess, then you can draw it any way you like.

Christian is right. You'd have to ownerdraw everything yourself. Applications cannot use one system theme and the system use another at the same time. You have to do all the drawing work yourself.
