*grin* OK, well, in that case, you need to write SQL in your presentation layer to use that stuff

Hi!
Under my project's directory I created some files and one folder at design time. How should I set the path inside code for a specific file. Should I use Application.StartUpPath (Which is looking under bin\debug directory but my files are not there) or Application.Executable path or Environment.CurrentDirectory (Which is working fine but I was adviced to use Application.StartupPath)
If I use Application.Startup path, Should I carry the folder and some other files under bin\debug directory at design time? When user installs the application, will this folder and files be under application's main directory?
Thanks.
What a curious mind needs to discover knowledge is noting else than a pin-hole.

During development, you copy the files and directory structure to your target bin folders, just like you would see when you install the application on a users machine. You can do this with a batch file that is launched in the Post-Build event. See your Project Properties, Compile tab, Build Events button.
Don't believe me when I say you shouldn't use CurrentDirectory? Try adding a FileSaveDialog or FileOpenDialog to your application and not handling the thing correctly. You'll find that the CurrentDirectory changes to whever the user picks in those Dialogs.

Hello
I am writting a window form program in VB.NET. I am running a series of SQL and I want to show an animation gif during the SQLs.
How can I do this?
Thanks
Eric H.

Run the SQL code in a thread, then your main UI will remain active. There are classes for running animated GIFs on this site ( there is no built in support )

Hi All....
Iam using datagrid control with combobox and Textbox.So I want to Editing begins when the cell receives focus. This mode is useful when pressing the Enter key to enter values across a row, or when pressing the ENTER key to enter values down a column.

First of all there is no relation between your subjectline and problem.......
Whatsoever...
Take a global timer variable say myTimer as ....
Dim WithEvents myTimer As New Timers.Timer
then....put this code in your form load event..
With myTimer<br />
.AutoReset = True<br />
.Interval = 5000<br />
.Start()<br />
End With
finally write following code in Timer's Elapse event like...
Public Sub myTimer_Elapsed(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Timers.ElapsedEventArgs) Handles myTimer.Elapsed<br />
Button1.Visible = False<br />
myTimer.Close()<br />
End Sub

Cross-thread operation not valid: Control 'Button1' accessed from a thread other than the thread it was created on.
Why have this error point to "Button1.Visible = False" this line ?

it is not at all any coding problem.......it works fine....but check what you are doing with that particular button...whether any other process is calling or referencing your control or not....

The code posted uses the Timers.Timer object which runs on a separate thread. Trying to change UI elements like visibility of a button will generate a cross thread error. It's unsafe to access controls from a thread that didn't create that control. Instead try using the forms.timer.
Dim WithEvents myTimer As New Windows.Forms.Timer
Public Sub myTimer_Tick(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs) Handles myTimer.Tick
Button1.Visible = False
myTimer.Stop()
End Sub
Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
With myTimer
.Interval = 5000
.Start()
End With
End Sub

This is only possible if you store this kind of information in your database yourself. You'll have to update your tables schema to store this stuff. There is currently no database that does this automatically.

I am using MSFlexGrid control in Window Form application in VB.NET.
I need to position an image on my flexgrid according to the colposition.
I am using get_colpos method and it returns the column position in pixels (I think). I need to convert this value to Point (I think)
Thanks

You are most likely getting the co-ordinates relative to the wrong thing. There are ScreenToClient and ClientToScreen methods on your form to convert between the two.
A Point is just two numbers. A Point that represents a screen location will be in Pixels.
