Hello,
[VS 2005]
I have a problem that i want to install on a user computer. After the installation the program will check to see if the database is update. If not, the it will run some sql script file to update the database.
I have the sql script file, but not sure how to get the program to look for the script file to execute it on the server, if the database not up to date. The script file should be part of the installation.
Anyone have any ideas or can point me in the right direction.
Many thanks,
Steve

Why would you want to install "a problem"??

That depends on the database engine in question. There are various command line tools that come with various engines to do this. I think the one for SQL Server is OSQL. You just give it the path of the script to run and some logon information and it'll run the script.

We are looking for a VB.net 2005 programmer to develop a couple of application for the purpose of controlling and graphically displaying the telemetry data from the Robot. The first aplication is to duplicate the following Application . http://www.roboticsgroup.com/demos/radar/radar.html
This Application sends a “get” command to the robot requesting the distance to target , the robot replies with the distance in inches from 0- 255 and the data must be displayed just like the demo above.
Skype me at “bonilla_b”. Thank you

Today I discovered that the .Net 2.0 combobox append autocomplete mode drops of text after a / (forward slash). I am guessing that it is some kind of escape character.
I have never run into this before. Is there a way to resolve this behavior?
Thanks

How to change the Gateway from Vb.net 2005
I saw the following
Dim RixRoad As New ProcessStartInfo<br />
RixRoad.FileName = "Netsh"<br />
<br />
RixRoad.Arguments = "interface ip set address name=""Local Area Connection"" static 192.168.1.102 255.255.255.0 192.168.1.2 1"<br />
Process.Start(RixRoad)
But how to change the Gateway only?
I have no problem if you provide me any other solution then the above 1

I would like to programmatically extract all the files from a Windows XP compressed folder. The folder contains multiple subfolders, and the system.io.compression namespace only deals with individual files.
It's for an install. Shipping this complicated structure, and decompressing it would make life really easy.
I thought of using a process, but I don't know the commands to use.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Sir/Madam,
can i programically find out the SMTP server hostname from my computer in vb.net 2005 Window Application.
Thanks and regards
Pankaj

First you need to set your SMTP server hostname in your app.config file:
<system.net>
<mailSettings>
<network host="SMTPServerNameHere" />
</mailSettings>
</system.net>
Then you can to this:
dim _systemNet as System.Net.Configuration.NetSectionGroup
dim config as Configuration = Nothing
config = ConfigurationManager.OpenExeConfiguration(ConfigurationUserLevel.None)
_systemNet = config.GetSectionGroup("system.net")
finally this will have your smtpserver name
_systemNet.MailSettings.Smtp.Network.Host
Hope that helps.

Process.Start, if given an email address, should open the default mail program.

Sir/Madam,
Can somebody please suggest me how can i generate a barcode with vb.net - .NET 2005 Window Application.
Thanks and Regards

In most cases when I have produced barcodes, I have used a barcode font. So then you just need to decide which barcode you are trying to produce and then figure out how to get that font. In most cases you can just pass the normal test like 1234 and the font will take care of making into a barcode.
Hope that helps.

That depends entirely on the type of barcode you want to generate. Just using fonts won't cover some types of barcodes.

Hi in my sqlserver,i have three roles for a particular database...,
Each role have some limited wrights to access that database table...,
Ex:
Database name(DBName) have five tables:
Table1, Table2, Table3, Table4, Table5
and three roles:
Admin,User,Guest
Admin have all Wrights,he can insert,update or delete in that 5 tables...,
User have only insert wrights....,
Guest have only select wrights...,
Those things i already allocated in my database...,
Now my question is,
Suppose one of the user entering login page that person want to enter based on his wrights how to do that in vb.net...,
Plz any one knows help me,
All sorrows will be forget...,When u think ur most lovable one...,

You are able to verify in your code if the person has rights . If the person is an admin, you execute a different sql statment, if he/she is just a user also just execute a different sql statement and so on...
Therefore, First you should check the credentials of a user and then execute a different statment. I think this is the easiet way to do it. Also You can perform pesimistic or optimistic record lockings as well when you initialize a table which will prevent an user not to perform some certain tasks in the specific table.
I hope that helps.

Please help.
Thanks and regards
Pankaj

You don't even need a DSN. All you need to do is build the connection string in your code. You can find the format of various connection string for Access, and just about any other database, at http://www.connectionstrings.com[^].
