That's the whole point, you can't convert a binary file into a string.

So why are you asking on a vb.net forum? Ask on an asp forum.

As has been said, this is the wrong place. The web dev forum seems best, but google is even better, there are tons of the things out there for download.

Can sayme, please if possible work with the parallel port in Windows 98 and Visual Basic 6 generating interruptions (like MSComm in serial port do) when a pin of parallel port change your voltage or your value is e.g. 5 Volt ?
I'm not wish pooling the parallel port.
Best regards,
Edgar Steffen.

Your code can't generate the interrupt, no. You'll need a driver that fires events, not interrupts, that your VB6 code can handle and respond to. Without a driver that exposes this, your VB code is limited to polling for the status of various pins. This is CPU consuming and very ineffecient as you'll miss changes of state of various pins if they change and change back faster than your polling interval.

I have to install the windows application on server ,is it possible to access the application connected to that computer

Yes, you can just run it over the network. It will, however, run on your local machine. You need to use some sort of remote desktop software to run it, on the machine it's on.

All,
I've wanted to complete my Ascii Art project in VB6 for my son before I tried to port it over and learn VB.Net in more detail. My son loves the end-result art work you can do by loading an image and having it come out as colored HTML. Instead of buying a program to do it, I wanted the challenge of doing it myself. This program will take an image file (gif, jpg, bmp) and convert it to ASCII and store it in a colored htm file. It uses a loop that replaces a pixel with a letter.
I've got the program working in VB6 funtionally; however, the output is not what is expected and after a couple weeks have no idea why. I was hoping I could post the program here or send it to someone who has time to review the programs code. It's approximately 270 lines of code. Small project with one form only.
I didn't see where I could attach a file to upload the code here. Suppose I could copy/paste it all here, but wanted to see who was interested first. Plus with the program, I'm sure it will be much easier to troubleshoot.
Sincerely,
Harold

I have struggling with this for a few days now and i can't come up with a solution, damn it I can't sleep.
I have a array of bytes (iv'e used the UTF8 encoding from string to bytes) but i wan't to insert 4 bytes (255 = &HFF) before the result from the encoding. How do i do this the easiest way? do i have to loop through all values in the array? that seems to be a huge waste of cpu.
Thanks. And a merry merry X-Mas!!!!

If you post the code maybe it will help us.

Imports System.Text
Dim myBytes() As Byte
myBytes = Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes("TESTSTRING")
Dim myStartBytes() As Byte = {255, 255, 255, 255}
I want the mystartbytes to be in mybytes(0,1,2,3) but not overwrite but to push in the value so the rest of the array is moved 4 steps.
Do you understand what i mean?... My brain has freezed up.... thanks for your help.

It seems that you need a different container, have a look to ArrayList class (that provides the Insert method as well the InsertRange ) on MSDN.
Hope that helps.

Hi again....
I got it workin but I'm note quite happy with my coding.... feels like alot of unnecessary steps just for combinding two arrays with a few bytes in it.
Dim myMessage As New ArrayList
Dim myByte() As Byte = {255, 255, 255, 255}
myMessage.AddRange(myByte)
myMessage.AddRange(Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes("rcon popeye status"))
myByte = myMessage.ToArray(GetType(Byte))
|
|
|
|
|
In .NET 2.0 this is 2 lines
Dim byteList As New List(Of Byte)(New Byte() {255, 255, 255, 255})
byteList.AddRange(UTF8.GetBytes("TESTSTRING")) Since in .NET 2.0 the List is Generic, you can use the ToArray Methohd to get a byte array of the byteList on the fly
Example:
Dim pass() as byte = byteList.ToArray Or even in method calls:
Dim writer As New BinaryWriter(New FileStream("C:\test.txt", FileMode.CreateNew))
writer.Write(byteList.ToArray)

OP doesn't make any sense. I am guessing he wants to have something done at during setup of his app...
If you try to write that in English, I might be able to understand more than a fraction of it. - Guffa

So get the information from the user once serialize it to the registry, ini file, or an XML file which ever you’re most comfortable with. On App start up, read the info try and connect, if the connection fails present the dialog to fetch the dB server information again, try connecting until it succeeds. Simple enough
I'd love to help, but unfortunatley I have prior commitments monitoring the length of my grass. :Andrew Bleakley:

Tab index is a property of each control. It doesn't need to be a strict 1,2,3,4 sequence, but it will run in numeric order, based on the values you provide, or the defaults.

Thanks Graus
I accept you as it's not neccessary to be 1,2,3 ...
you can make any sequence , I'm allready make it but on run time when you press tab key you find that the order of it isn't as you have changed,,
I know as it's so simple thing , and I did it on some new application I found that it's working as good ,
but on my project some times I copy controls from one place to another and then delete some and reAdd some .. etc , then I go to reEnter the TabIndex as any ordered numbers , ,, on run time I found this problem only on my project , ,,, I'm using some controls of Devexpress's controls , I don't know it's my make any problems I don't know ,
I'm sorry for waste your time
