Hello,
Is there a way to force software update on domain computers, which software update may consist of changing single .ini / .exe files without installer?

This might help.[^]

Well, for features i have mentioned how files and folders can be viewed as thumbnails, icons etc. Another feature i have mentioned is the shortcuts, that when u click on a file, in the left hand column, XP have included links like 'cut' 'publish to web' etc. There are features. But what are the functions, is that what XP can perform, like system restore?
Thanks

Microsoft Windows like so many other products blurs the distinction between feature and function. But generally speaking, a feature is a "selling point" and a function is "what it does in a non-specific way", which in itself could be a feature.
Regarding System Restore, this is no doubt a function of the operating system, however, in the hands of marketing people, it becomes a feature as the ability to restore the computer to another time becomes a selling point.

When I click on the User folder,
Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\CD Burning
Local Settings is not visible, I dont see an area to show hidden folders. XP Home.
Found it by Search to include Hidden Folders and Files, how do we unhide them please.
EDIT
Control Panel, Appearance & Themes, Folder Options, View TAB, then in Advance Settings Block choose Show hidden files and folders Option Button, click Apply and OK, DONE.

Darn those hidden files, how can I burn a CD if the files are hidden, the last paragraph of my post described how to make them un-hidden, they are not hidding now, I found them.
If the files and folders can be hidden by reversing the un-hide process, the folders show up as a lighter icon, not as bright as folders that do not formally get hidden.

One of the difference between XP Home and XP Pro is that XP Pro supports up to two microprocessors, while XP Home supports only one. While that refers to physical CPUs, does it also apply to the new dual-core CPUs? In other words, would XP Home not be able to use one of the cores?

I'm not positive, but I believe that it won't be able to take advantge of the "second" processor. Unless someone else is able to give you a definitive answer, the best way to find out will be to install it and see what happens.
. [modification 9:15 Tuesday 23rd October, 2007]Looks like I was wrong, based on the comments below. It should be able to take advantage of both cores, just not multiple physically separate chips.[/modification]

XP Home can only support one physical processor but does recognise and support multiple cores, it just installs a new HAL so that it can use both cores.

Microsoft's licensing is based on processor sockets, not on physical or logical cores, from Windows XP up. You should be able to use all four cores of a Core 2 Quad processor package (which is actually two chips internally, IIRC!) on XP Home.

Yup, many other software companies were going the route of saying that 2 cores on one socket is 2 CPU's but thankfully Microsoft disagreed. Things could have gotten mighty expensive otherwise especially with Sql Server and stuff.

Hi,
i would like to know how to fix my issue.
situation:
i've a little portal built for asp.net with web services, in a machine that's inside a windows 2003 active directory integrated and distributed in 2 geographic zone...this zones speaks both through a router vpn...
so, there are two machines involved in this case...one is the web server portal machine and another one is repository server located in other zone with his public ip (but it's also configured to speak inside the vpn lan)
however, normally inside this portal the user (after logged in) can download one or more files.
in the portal machine web.config i've setting up to point to another machine (that has a public ip) to download files from that repository ....my issue is to block anonymous access but grant access to asp.net user of machine portal....infact if i disable anonymous access, the user authenticated using asp.net user machine, cannot downolad or better it gives me the classic error of page not found....sure disabling the anonymous access nobody can access, but how can i block everyone to point the path directly to download files and permit to download them only inside my portal (after logged in) ?

maybe you could try going into windows components (add/remove programs -> add/remove windows components) and uninstalling/reinstalling it. Alternatively, upgrade to IE7 and see if your situation changes at all there

Do you know how can I solve this problem if I want to use of IE6.

Just curious. When did this behavior first begin?
