Hi all,
I have an inherited app which was built with WCSF framework. It is a smaller app, way, way to small and simple to need the massive bulk of WCSF. I want to migrate to a normal webforms app.
I've managed to strip out most of the unneeded views, etc, and converted all pages and Masterpages to System.Web.UI.Page/MasterPage rather than the Practices Microsoft.Practices.CompositeWeb.Web.UI.Page
The site works fine with the exception of Global.cs, which still needs to inherit Microsoft.Practices.CompositeWeb.WebClientApplication
instead of HttpWebApplication. If I try to have global.cs use HttpWebApplication, the Shell and other modules don't inititalize, which *only* affects the Shell module and a few others that only deal with the sitemap and authorization.
I'd like to get rid of those modules and be able to completely remove all references to the Microsoft practices librarys. Partly due to the excess bulk, but partly due to the fact that anything I google on WCSF has a huge disclaimer "This is no longer supported...it is garbage and we at Microsoft disown it completely and are sorry we ever foisted it upon you" (or something to that effect).
Has anyone else gone down this road and do you have any suggestions?
Thanks,
James

Hello! I'm trying to bring DOM element (div ) with position: absolute to front of others elements with same positioning. All elements are placed in the same container with position: relative . So I'm trying to reach similar behavior as desktop windows have when they are cascading.
I know about these approaches:
1. Using z-index . Manually increment it and manage what is the highest.
2. Removing element from DOM container and appending it back to the end.
Please, advice any other approaches or what from these ones is the best (especially from UX and performance point of view).
Thanks!

Font is Calibri

How are you declaring the font? Using font-family: Calibri; , I see consistent results across Firefox, Chrome and IE:
http://jsfiddle.net/HQC3d/[^]
- © = © (copyright symbol)
- © = © (copyright symbol)
- Ó = Ó (capital "O" with acute accent)

I have something to resolve. I have a website use Spring security for authentication and check login ...When user open two tab, a one tab they login with one user account, and other tab, user will login with other user account. I want to inform to a first tab that "you're invalid session" or "have other user account login" or something like that. It's like how gmail works.
Now, I have some idea:
1. I will use ajax to check with server every 5s and get the information of current user account.
2. Trap before click event and ajaxSend event for check with server, if have other user account, abort it and inform to user.
3. Use WebSocket for communicate with server. I think server need to manage a lot of user account and it will make server work a lot.
Any idea about that?
Thanks in advance!

Hi,
I want to access directly 404 pages from website url like:
http://somesite.come
I want to access all 404 pages within this site using php and check if it is a custom 404 page. Any one can help??
|
|
|
|
|
How about the URL with an appended "\anypage"?
|
|
|
|
|
The only way you're going to do that would be to create a known invalid URL and try to navigate to it. Then you wait for what the server responds with. Usually, there's only one 404 page on a site, but it is possible to have multiple 404's per site.
You have no way at all of determining the location of these 404 pages external from the site. There is nothing to can do to "find" them.

I hope I picked the correct forum.
I have a personal project (asp.net MVC application) Just branding to go. I have a list of domain names to check, And I remember reading somewhere (I thought from the CP newsletter) that some of those sites register the name you lookup so they can sell it to You (at increased cost).
This will be My first venture at publishing a website.
Any suggestions as to a reputable site to use?

Hello
I know there are a lot of incompatibilties between browsers , but what I am axperiencing now seems quite paradoxical.
I have a small web page with the following simple html in it :
label {width:240px;background-color:aqua}
input:text {width:70px}
Stato servizio
Messaggio di benvenuto singolo
Tipo messaggio di benvenuto singolo
I expect labels and inputs to appear exactly formatted in columns
and having the same width .....
This effectively happens, but only in IE10...If I use Chrome (29) or Firefox (10) every label has the size of its contents,no matter what is specified in the tag ... only the background color seems to correctly follow the style directive. Is there a way to make browsers follow standard html, and to work around eventual incompatibilities?

There are two problems with your styles:
- By default, a
<label> is an inline element, and width doesn't apply to inline elements; input:text is a jQuery selector, not a CSS selector;
Try:
label
{
width:240px;
display: inline-block;
background-color:aqua
}
input[type=text]
{
width:70px
}
Example: http://jsfiddle.net/tJFUK/[^]
"These people looked deep within my soul and assigned me a number based on the order in which I joined."

Ok thank you, I followed your suggestion and had a big improvement, even though there are still differences since the input object seems to be much smaller in size on Chrome and Firefox than on IE .... is it possible to fix this problem too ?
|
|
|

There's a lot of differences between the default rendering in different browsers. You'll need a browser normalization stylesheet[^] to get consistent rendering.

This is the third question on web development you have posted today. You are not going to learn this subject by posting questions here. Go to the ASP.NET site I gave you in your other question, and study the subject. Better still, get a book and work through it.
