It's not necessary - you can define it as protected - but this way it's guaranteed that you can not change the value in a base class.
I don't know how this is normally done in VB? (anyone?)

I have an object that I've created to interface with a file upload and parsing in a webapp. The object basically keeps a string of the filename inside itself and then parses the file into a list at the proper time.
The file is uploaded and then hashed and the hash is presented to the user before "signing". After they sign the file is parsed. If, however, they close the page or don't do anything with it, how can I guarantee the file is deleted from the disk? Would it be best to put a deletion routine in the destructor of the object?

a bit a special idea:
- add object to cache that identifies file with an time when it should expire, register handler when cache element is removed.
- in event handler remove file from disk
No other idea right now

I have my web app developed in ASP.NET 2.0 and runs on IIS 6.0 and IE 6.0. Is it possible to configure my application to run on IIS 7.0 without making changes in the code itself? IIS 7.0 provides IIS6 Management compatibility component for backbard compatability which i Installed. After that my setup/installer started working and it installed the application on my machine. I am using Windows Vista Business Edition and i have installed everything under IIS except Fax services.
I am stuck with configuring Integrated Windows Secruity in IIS 7.0 for my website. My application doesn't allow anonymous access but uses only windows authentication. I am only able to see three options in the IIS 7.0 Authentication. Anonymous, ASP.NET and Forms. i tried different combinations but my web pages are not opening... either i get HTTP 401.2 or HTTP 401.3 error. It's says unauthorized user or authentication headers are not correct ....
One of microsoft's article mentions that you would be able to see option for Windows Authentication asl well in your IIS Manager but i can't see this option.
Any idea? In short I just want my previous IIS6 application (.NET 2.0) to run on Vista Business.

Hi,
I'm looking to (i) accept paramters (e.g. strings) on the command-line, (ii) inject the values into an xml file and (iii) post the xml file to a web server. So I was thinking of creating a js file, injecting the calues into xml and posting with something like:
var xmlhttp =
new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP");
var doc = new ActiveXObject("MSXML.DOMDocument");
doc.async = false;
doc.Load("MyXml.xml");
xmlhttp.Open("POST","http://someUrl.asp",false);
xmlhttp.send(doc.xml);
alert(xmlhttp.responseXML.xml);
So my question is, is javascript suitable for the first two requirements. Would the document object or xpath support this?
Thanks

i am building a image gallery in ASP.NET. All images are placed in a specific folder and i want to show the thumb nails of all those image on the web page. Its all working well. Means that my page is displaying the thumb nails of all images that exists in the folder.
The problem arise when i copy the new files in the folder, then the new copied files are not being displayed by thumbs.db file. Thumbs.db file donot update itself when new files are copied in the folder.
how i can solve this problem that when ever i delete or copy images in the folder, the thumbs.db file updates itself???????????????

Javascript is a client side scripting language.
What you need is a server side scripting language to process the transmitted form variables (transmitted via either get or post form method) and fill in the fields from the transmitted variables before sending the DHTML for the second page to the client's browser.

hello frnd,
after filling all the values on form no 1
place the button there named "Submit" and on submit click called a function in Javascript and use the
Window.open()
method and in that use the request.query string method
it will open the form2 and display all the member on form 2
OR
use the hidden variables,

or in javascripts you could use cookies to save values and reload these datas in another page, sure, the guest must enabled the cookies in your navigator.

Write a proc that does the insert for multiple records. XML is the best way to pass multiple records, OpenXML can turn that into a table, which you then insert into your main DB.

recently i moved my website from unix hosting to windows hosting that only supports IIS and not apache. in the site i have a folder called /registered_users which can contain basically any sort of file. now since the .htaccess script handler is not there everyone can go access the file. the username and passwords are about 500 and password obviously is encrypted. I have a sql table that has unencrypted user/pwd now how could i create sumthing similar to what was there earlier. there are like hundreds of html pages within that folder which are added/deleted automatically.
I simply want to give access to entire folder if they login successfuly.
please help

this is working only if its aspx page not when its a html page.

True. Web.config is parsed only it comes under the control of ASP.NET runtime.
I think you can make MimeTypes in IIS updated so that HTML pages are also wired through ASP.NET. But be aware that this might be a performance tradeoff.
