Hi i need ideas/ or any help in creating a audit functionality.
I want to audit
1. user logins to application
2. under each session what transactions are made
3. under each session, transaction pair what sql server table, data was accessed, changed, updated, deleted.
Can we do this with triggers?
ANY HELP would be great

Yes, if you're only auditing actions on the database, triggers make a lot of sense

I downloaded the firefox 3 installer ( firefox-3.0b2pre.en-US.win32.installer.exe) from this link. (It shows as Minefield that I have no idea. maybe codename)
And I'm trying to do some javascript stuffs with FF3. and I come out a few questions...
1. Generators
function fib() {<br />
var i = 0, j = 1;<br />
while (true) {<br />
yield i;<br />
var t = i;<br />
i = j;<br />
j += t;<br />
}<br />
}<br />
<br />
var g = fib();<br />
for (var i = 0; i < 10; i++) {<br />
document.write(g.next() + "<br>\n");<br />
}<br />
it seems interesting. It helps us to write the shorter code.. but I don't understand why we need to do this.. I have googled about this and I can't think of any useful scenario where this code fits in.
Does anyone know the case where we can't live without this feature??
2. Iterator
This one is awesome.. vote 5.
3. Array comprehensions
var evens = [i for (i in range(0, 21)) if (i % 2 == 0)];
No. It doesn't work.. Has anyone tried this thing with Firefox 3? Actually, what the doc said is that it should work in both Firefox2 and Firefox3.
4.let
This one is also another awesome thing.. The example below (from Mozilla doc) shows the power and usefulness of "let" keyword
var list = document.getElementById("list");<br />
for (var i = 1; i <= 5; i++)<br />
{<br />
var item = document.createElement("LI");<br />
item.appendChild(document.createTextNode("Item " + i));<br />
let j = i;<br />
item.onclick = function (ev) {<br />
alert("Item " + j + " is clicked.");<br />
};<br />
list.appendChild(item);<br />
}<br />
5. Destructuring assignment
<br />
var a = 1;<br />
var b = 3;<br />
<br />
[a, b] = [b, a];<br />
This is also useful. But it doesn't work with Firefox2 (the doc said that it should work. ) anyway, it works fine with Firefox3.
6. Expression closures
function(x) x * x
I have no idea about how to use this in my project.. Can anyone give me the example about how to use this closures and why we need this?? Thanks.
I haven't tried with expression generator, array reduce and etc.. I'm not so sure why "Array comprehensions" doesn't work in FF3. and also, I would like to get the explanation about Generators and Expression closures with examples.
Thanks in advance..
P.S: I should have posted this post in lounge. :P (just kidding)

I don't know of a situation where it's indispensable, but it can make life easier. Heck, that goes for all of these.
It's a common pattern: there's a generated set that you're gonna iterate through, but there are a large enough number of elements... or calculating each element costs enough... that you'd rather do so on an as-needed basis. For instance: a Google Reader-style "virtual list" where additional list elements are loaded only when the user has scrolled past the already-loaded elements.

Works for me - in fact, i use them in CPhog. You do need to define the range() function in order to make the example work.

These are just shorthand for a function that returns a value.

One more thing I forget to tell is I am using the following code to read the file:
function ReadIt()
{
var filename = 'client side file-name';
if (confirm('Do you want to see what we put on your computer?'))
{
var fso, a, ForReading;
ForReading = 1;
fso = new ActiveXObject('Scripting.FileSystemObject');
file = fso.OpenTextFile(filename, ForReading, false);
while (!file.AtEndOfStream)
name += file.ReadLine( ) + "\n";
alert(name);
}
}
And when i run it through server I am getting following error:
"Automations server cannot create object"..
Can any one Please suggest?
Thanks,
RK..

You don't. Not in a webbrowser. That would be a horrific security hole.

I know it's in Java, But can you plz give me the java code to achieve this functionality??

I can't, but a Google search turns up lots of results. I would seriously rethink why you want to access a local file because whatever you do is going to be thoroughly unpleasant to use.

I haven't played around much with Java but I'm pretty sure anything accessed via a webbrowser is going to have a hard time reading for the users local disk..

You have the file input field in a form. The user submits the form to your server, which causes their browser to upload the file as part of the request. You then have the file to use as you wish.

Hi All,
Acctually what i wanted to do is, I need to create a report and for report layout I wanted to read the file from the client machine. this is the reason why i wanted to read the file from client machine.
Thanks,

That's great. It doesn't matter. The method i described to you is the only method short of installing additional software on the user's machine.

The simple and straight answer is NO. The web browser would deny any such attempts for security reasons.

trial and error, that's about it. There's plenty on the web on the problems with the same css giving different results in different browsers.

You're welcome. Now, next time, show some regard for the person who replies to you - Guffa offered you general advice, noting that you failed to provide any specific details on your problem. Instead of replying with specific details, you created a new account and posted the same, vague, question.
Hint: we don't hate the word "trilok" here - we just can't provide specific answer to vague questions.
