By writing some timer code, I guess. Emitting the value of DateTime.Now several times to the page will be enough to tell you what's taking the longest.

hello
haven't done ASP.NET for sometime - just created a very simple hello world WebService, hit F5 but checking IIS, seems like the package is not automatically deployed to IIS under Vista?
But the webservice is shown on browser succssfull under link http://localhost:50362/Service1.asmx[^]
How does it work now? I remember back in .NET 1 it gets deployed to IIS folder automatically.

Linux has Mono, but I am pretty sure that only IE has ever supported activeX. The way forward is to use Java to embed applets in your web pages.

That would be a solution... I'll see if I can work it out.
Any more ideas would be appreciated too.
Thanks,

BTW: Doesn't .net have anything close to applets?

Yeah, you can create .NET dlls and consume in a web page. But, only in IE, I believe.

Is this even an ASP.NET question ? I don't think so. You can mark a file as read only on the file system, but if you want to create documents that can't be edited, use PDF.

Here is the scenerio.. I want a customer to find their name and address in lets say a listbox and when they select it their customerID will go in a new form.. After their customerID is in the new form they can finish typing in the other fields in the form and then insert into the SQL table.. The two tables involved are called.. tblCustomer and tblServiceQuote..
I'm very new to ASP.net so I need this as simple as you can provide it..If you tell me I need to do some kind of event I need to know if I should do it in VB or in Javascript.. If I need to write a query where do I write it? What do I name my controls?
Sorry but I'm so new I no very little..Thanks

Hi,
This is Nishant .....
A customer when select His name on ListBox and click on a submit button
write the following Code on the Button Click event ..........
protected void btnSubmit_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
Resopnse.Redirect("NewForm.aspx? CustomerID="+ListBox1.SelectedItem.Value.ToString());
}
and on NewForm.aspx.cs
you can retrieve the Query String as Follows
Request.QueryString["CustomerID].ToString();

It is a delimiter telling the values being passed to the next form and their appropriate variable.
You could also use session variables to store the customerid...

also, when I paste your code in the the btn click event it says"end of statement expected" what am I missing? see below
Protected Sub Button2_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button2.Click
protected void btnSubmit_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { Resopnse.Redirect("NewForm.aspx? CustomerID="+ListBox1.SelectedItem.Value.ToString()); }
End Sub
End Class

It is because he gave you a C# version and you are using VB.NET. The code should be:
Protected Sub Button2_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button2.Click
Response.Redirect("NewForm.aspx? CustomerID="+ListBox1.SelectedItem.Value.ToString())
End Sub

I explained this to you in depth the other day. You need to buy a book and work through it, so you have at least some basic knowledge to apply to the answers you are given here.

Hi,
I have a TextBox and a Button in my page. I'd like to print only the textBox content when the user clicks the button, the browser print dialog may show, i don't really care, the only thing important to me is not sending the standard html printed header nor the footer with the page url. I just want the textbox content printed, it can't be changed by the browser, nor having anything added to.
Thanks,
Dirso

The only way you can do this, is to show a new window with the text you want to print, and then print that.

That would be ok for me, my problem is that when I print any internet document, it usually has it's own format, like it has the internet page header and a footer with the url right? I know it depends on the browser the customer is using but I have to print ONLY the text I'm showing, nothing more. I'm actually constructor printer commands, so any characters or symbols the browser "decides" to print other than what I tell would generate printer errors.

You get NO control. The end. The browser prints, and that's it. Not unless yo uwrite an activeX control or something. But, if it prints a title, it's bound to be the document title, so make that blank. Go to a site like expedia or your bank. They will give you a print view. Look at the HTML to see how they construct it to print the way it does.
