Check whether devenv.exe file is inside that directory.
Actually devenv.exe will be in "Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Common7\IDE" (I am using VS 2005) and for VS2003 it will be in "Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 7\Common7\IDE".
Check the filepath.

* Check whether you have the Environment Variable in your machine?
* You have to set the full path of "Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 7\Common7\IDE\devenv.exe", say "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 7\Common7\IDE\devenv.exe" where C: is the Installed Path in the Environment Variable.

Assume that your submit button name is submit1. Then add the onclick attribute for that button in page load.
submit1.Attributes.Add("OnClick","return javascript:confirm("Are you sure");");
This will return true if you pressed ok. Else it will return false and page won't be posted.,

we have various exceptions like..

System.ArgumentException
System.ArgumentNullException
System.ArithmeticException
System.IO.FileNotFoundException
System.IO.IOException
.....................
....................
if we want to catch IO errors and some general errors in the same code ....then is there any sequence that we have to follow.
i mean first catch block should handle only geneal exceptions, next catch block for IO errors...
or we can use any order??

You should start with the most specific exceptions first and move to the more general. You can work out which are specific and which are general by looking at the base class of each exception. The most general (and therefore last) exception is Exception.

I am using the FormView control to create a form with a number of different type of form elements.
I'm adding the form elements one at a time and testing my insert so that if something doesn't work, I can identify the form element causing trouble.
My first two form elements were drop down lists and work fine. Now I've added a ListBox where the user can select multiple items from the list. This form element is optional, so in my stored procedure I have set the parameters value to default to null in case the user skips this form element. It is expected that the user will select 0-3 itmes from this list, so I wrote 3 parameters in the stored proc to handle incoming choices from the list.
Now when I submit the form, no matter whether I choose any items or not from the listbox, I get this error message:
'Procedure or function sp_GPRA_InsertActivity has too many arguments specified.'
At this point I have 6 parameters declared in my stored proc and 6 <asp:parameter> items in the source code of my aspx page.
I am wondering how the asp engine handles the submital for items from a list box? Since I am using FormView there is no code behind for me to look at to see how things are being processed for me. As a classic .asp programmer this is frustrating for me because I feel like I don't know what's going on behind the scenes.I have searched the internet high and low for anything on how ListBox selections are sent as parameters and I can't find a thing.
Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

Try adding an event handler to the FormViews ItemInserting event and add a break point in the handler method. Then when you run it in debug mode you can see exactly what parameters are being passed (should be somewhere in the even argument object)

Hopefully this helps:
Add this attribute to your FormView tag:
OnItemInserting="FormView1_ItemInserting"
(it got removed  - should read On Item Inserting all one word)
And then in your code behind:
protected void FormView1_ItemInserting(object sender, FormViewInsertingEventArgs args) {
}
(that was off the top of my head, the args type might be a bit wrong)
Now run the application in debug mode (just hit F5) and open the page. VS will pause the process at the break point and you'll be able to inspect the args object which I think contains the parameters.

Hi Everyone
I have created 4 5 webpages in ASP.net using VB.net.
They were all working fine.
But recently i have found that none of the buttons on the webpage is visible at runtime!!
all the other controll (including third party controlls) are visible and working.
Can anyone help me out on this.

Check the visible property of the controls. It should be true. If it is false then asp server doesn't create the html control for same. so it will not visible in any case.

If they are set as visible also check whether the HTML is being sent to the client, in which case it could be a CSS related problem.

Anybody know where I can get my hands on a simple to follow asp.net tutorial. I need to setup a site were a user can enter search criteria on current members of the site and there details are displayed.
I’ve seen a tutorial somewhere along these line before but just can remember were. I know a little asp but not much .net, so it’ll have to be simple.
