Hey people,
I've created a TreeView, which appears to be populating itself either by caching everything when it loads, or via ajax (not sure, as page doesn't reload when I expand the tree, which is connected to a database....). I'm using the "OnTreeNodePopulate" event to speak to the database for the Nodes to load.
When I expand a TreeNode which has a lot of TreeNodes below it, it takes a few seconds to load up, is there a way to before it starts to load, change the Web Browser's Status Bar to say "loading treeview" or something to indicate to the user, that it has not crashed?
Regards,
CD

OMG, you won't be able to do this in ASP.NET. It works on the server, listens to the requests and serves HTML. ASP.NET can't fetch the page and send that page through LAN to other computer. Since you are a beginner, consider purchasing good ASP.NET books and start with that. Check BOL to get an idea about how it is working.

Print the variable MySql before you execute them. You will find the error then. Also your code is open for SQL Injection. Read articles about SQL injection and change your query.

Replcae "'" to "`" and insert into database.
At retriving from database, Replace "`" into "'"
for example
Dim mystring as string = "Women's Studies"
mystring =mystring.replace("'","`");
MySql = "INSERT into tblName (Dept) values ('" & mystring & "')"

if you use parameterised queries it solves both a) The apostrophe problem and b) the sql injection vulnerability problem.

Hi,
I am using an asp:FileUpload control with a regular expression control to check the file types. The regular expression has a error message if it is a file with a different extension.
On the page is an upload button. When the upload button is clicked, and the file extension is correct, then it uploads the image to the server. But the page does a post back to itself and the error message of the regular expression validator is fired. Why is this and how can I prevent it from being fired after the file is uploaded?

As per my understanding:
use this property of Reg validator
enableclientscript="True"
If I am wrong, please correct me

Read the message again. When I click on the upload button it then uploads the image to the server and in the process does a post back. But once the page did a post pack the regular expression validator control is triggered some how and the error message is displayed. I don't want the message to be displayed after postback, it's not even supposed to display after postback.

After save the file set validator property
IsValid with true

Of course - they're ALL urgent, and yet, no-one knows how to use google, it seems.
I recommend you buy a beginners book on ASP.NET or just web development in general, so you get some basic concepts under your belt. One very basic concept is that the two ways to store values between pages, are to store them in your session, or ( better here ) put them on the URL.
When you redirect to second.aspx, if you redirect to second.aspx?id=5&name=fred, you can use the Request.QueryString class to access the values of 5 and fred, via their names, id and name. Of course, your users can see this on the URL, so don't use it for sensitive data.

Why are you using a framework that is four years and two iterations out of date ? VS2005 and VS2008 would allow a cross page postback, a third option for passing data between pages.

Oh My! You can not expect that much up-to-date attitude here. I had an opportunity to talk with one of my colleague who was with me in one of my second previous organization. They are still using VB/ASP and Crystal Reports.

Some people are locked into legacy projects, but this guy is obviously very much a beginner, so I assume he's just learning, and the express editions are free, so there's no reason to learn 2003 that I can see.

I have a good reason (I think)
To keep my tools up-to-date all the time, I will spend time searching and downloading new versions, or I will lose my money purchasing these updates
And the biggest problem is that I will waste time learning how to use the new tool or versions
So when will I develope?
I think that I can do everything using C++ or even ASSEMBLY

Generally speaking when people sell tools they price them so they are worth buying... its worth trying out things that you have heard good things about - it saves you money over the longer term. (ie: Resharpers saved me many times it's list price in time).
