Hi,
this is strange i guess, this might not happen as .NET itself reduces it properly.
but in case, use javascript tags with writting runat="server" for ur drop down. it will exactly work as <asp:dropdownlist xmlns:asp="#unknown">
and use "for loop" to fill ur 1000 datas.
Use javascript maximum possible in ur coding this will reduce load on server because javascript run on client machine, so data transfer time from clint to server then back to clientis saved in much extent. and your page wont postback also
Thanks. Reply me if it helped u or not.
Happy coding,
bye.

I was trying to rewrite the url.
in the inline code i have the link button with the following tag
<asp:LinkButton CommandArgument='<%#DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem,"id")%>' CommandName="magic" ID="l" runat="server" Text='<%#DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem,"lessonname") %>' NavigateUrl='<%#"editLesson.aspx?id=" + DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem,"id")%>'></asp:LinkButton>
after clicking the linkbutton it comes in the gridview rowbound event
Response.Redirect("quotes/page" + e.CommandArgument.ToString() + ".aspx");
then the control goes to
global.asax file in the application begin request function
void Application_BeginRequest(Object sender, EventArgs e)<br />
{<br />
HttpContext context = HttpContext.Current;<br />
<br />
string oldpath = context.Request.Path.ToLower();<br />
string token = "/quotes/page";<br />
int len = token.Length;<br />
<br />
int i = oldpath.IndexOf(token);<br />
if (i != -1)<br />
{<br />
<br />
int j = oldpath.IndexOf(".aspx");<br />
<br />
if (j != -1)<br />
{<br />
<br />
string id =<br />
<br />
oldpath.Substring(i + len, j - (i + len));<br />
string newpath =<br />
<br />
oldpath.Replace(token + id + ".aspx",<br />
<br />
"/editLesson.aspx?id=" + id);<br />
<br />
context.RewritePath(newpath);<br />
<br />
}<br />
}<br />
<br />
}
finally i want to navigate to editlessonpage by the name of virtualdirectory/quotes/page12.aspx
but it remains in the same page , the page where i clicked the linkbutton in the gridview

Hi people,
my name is Fernando, and about 50 days ago i started with a problem, and couldnt solve it yet.
I have an asp.net application, in version framework 1.1 yet, used to manage content. Its published in a host company, and they use windows server 2003 32 bit, up to date.
In my company i do all windows updates, but i use win xp.
So, for almost 2 years it worked fine. I have 4 customer web sites in the same host, with this application replicated, and as i told, all of them worked properly until 23/04/08.
In this day, all of them stopped, and i started receiving an error: "Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'WHERE'"
Well, usually i would think that a SQL instruction has a problem. But not: They were not modified, and the database also don´t. But when i do a remote connection in the host database, but with pages, dll and framework from my machine, everything works fine. We moved the application from machines in the host company, many times, and nothing. Just in on that are not up to date, everything worked.
I started to check all possibilities, and using trace i could see the origin.
When the 'Application_start' event is fired, i read information of schemas of table, writing them in a XML file, used to have all the definitions in my hand. This is useful for many things, like automatic validation for example.
I read data by Fillschema method from DataAdapter to get the information, and here is the problem.
In the machines that DONT show any problem, the trace showed:
"SET FMTONLY ON SELECT * FROM FUNCAO_SISTEMA FUNCAO_SISTEMA ORDER BY COD_FUNCAO_STR SET FMTONLY OFF"
And in the machines where nothing works, the trace showed:
"SET FMTONLY ON SELECT * FROM FUNCAO_SISTEMA FUNCAO_SISTEMA ORDER BY COD_FUNCAO_STR WHERE 1=2 SET FMTONLY OFF"
This WHERE 1=2 is the problem.
I Think SQL is intending to process SET FMTONLY OFF as a condition from WHERE, and this is the problem.
Maybe something was changed in a framework lib from Microsoft, and update in 23/04/08.
WEll, first part is over.
Now, how can i send this to Microsoft for correction?
I really tried in their website, but i haven´t a contract of support, and there´s no place no send error information. So, i´m here, and don´t know what to do.
Do some of you have the same error? Can you try to make it, if you have win server 2003?
Do you agree with my point of view, about the WHERE 1 = 2?
Can somebody help me?
Thanks!
PS: I published this also in VB.Net area, but this asp.net area is the correct. It was a mistake, sorry.

I have gone through the Google around your problem and found there a articles that seems to help you for solving your issues.
Did read below articles:

Hey Parwej,
first of all, thanks for the help.
This is a way, but my situation is a bit different.
- The problem occurs in a select instruction, and not in the update process.
- I don´t use OLE DB Provider for SQL Server, but the generic OLEDB Provider, that works with all databases, like SQL Server, Oracle, etc...
But i´ll install that hotfix (just monday), and check if its solves the problem. I will post here the result, ok!
If anyone have another suggestion to help me, thanks in advance.

I recommend buying a basic book on web development, and ASP.NET, and reading it so that you have a rudimentary understanding of how it works. Otherwise, even if we answer you, you won't understand it.
If you prefer, you could google[^]

Please read this if you don't understand the answer I've given you

The value of session variable persist until the project
means we can use the value of session variable anywhere in the project

sorry but still don't get it

session["sessionvariable"]=textbox1.text;
for accessing this session variable use
string var=session["sessionvariable"].tostring();

Is there anything in the toolbox I can use to create a sidebar in my page, or will I have to hand code the html for it?

I think the easiest way to accomplish that is to use an HTML Table in your aspx with two or more columns. You could accomplish this with div tags and css but that's more difficult.

ah thanks. Calling my html skills dangerous would probably be overstating it a bit so I'll be going with option number one.

So is there any way I can convince VS that I really want to drag/drop controls into the cells using the design view instead of by editing the source?

The table solution's a lot fuglier than I thought it'd be. In addition to not being able to drag/drop controls into a cell, if you edit them in via html you can no longer access with the properties in the designer.

Are you using vs2003 or something? You can drag it right into the cell.
<table style="width: 100%; border: none;" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0">
<tr>
<td style="width: 30%; text-align:left; vertical-align:top;">
PUT SIDE CONTENTE HERE
</td>
<td style="width: 70%; text-align:left; vertical-align:top;">
PUT MAIN CONTENT HERE
</td>
</tr>
</table>

No, I'm using 08. I can drag it into the table via the source view. The problem is that after I do that I can't access the anything I dragged into the cell in the designer to edit it's properties without dragging it back out.

Are you sure? just select the control from the list on the properties tab...

Doh!
Don't use the asp:table. It is almost useless...
You can always ad runat=server to any table td or tr tag anyway. I never understood the point of the asptable.

If it wasn't broken in a stupid fashion it'd facilitate drag and drop programming even more. I'm 14hrs into my 1st asp.net project and I've only had to write a single line of C#, and aside from the table I haven't had to touch the html either.

LOL at one line of code. When 2.0 first came out I tried to write an app using as little code as possible. It worked but it is just easier to do things via code when you get good at it.
