cbjroms wrote: Why would VS2005 not offer the option of a website project and why is the option to Build/Publish missing for the second programmer?
Which Edition of VS 2005 you are using ? I have been working with VS 2005 Prof. edition, it has Build and Publish option of web sites.
Check this article [^] , Read Publish web sites section.

Thank you for the replies.
Firstly, I am the 'client' for both of these programmers who I am hiring. I have been working with the first one for a couple of years and know him well. Thorough, cautious, intelligent, helpful but too busy to make the progress that I need. The second programmer is new to me and all I know about him is his CV. Both are UK, freelance VB.Net/SQL developers with broad CVs.
The second programmer is using the standard version (ie not Express but not Pro) of VS2005. Truthfully I expect him to be able to sort out this issue (ie why can he not publish when the other programmer can?) himself and feel quite disappointed that he has passed the problem back to me!
The reason I am asking you guys is to assess whether his inability to sort the problem is reasonable for someone who claims to be proficient in VS2005? Clearly if the problem is a deeply rooted, unique and complex quirk of VS2005 then my expectations might be unreasonably high! But having worked for 6 months with a developer in Russia, who seemed to find his way around everything that got in his way, I am not so sure.
Grateful for your views.
Chris

I'm looking for a good date and time control. There are plenty of date controls but they all fall short for the time entry portion of the control. Is there a good solution for time entry?

I think there is one article on CP about this, somebody has developed a user control for this, just search for it.
But I prefer using, CalenderExtender for Date (best for dates), and MaskEditExtender for Time (__:__:__), from AJAX Control Toolkit (available free at ajax.asp.net).

I recommend reading the post on how to ask questions at the top of this forum. My answer right now is, your code is broken. Describing the problem with some actual code, would elicit a more specific response.

post the portion of the code for clear idea,
but as per my understanding, you are loading the image to some temp file on the server, i.e. userimage.jpg and you have displayed that image on the page. and when user changes you are just replacing that image with another user image, so the name remains same every time.
if this is the case then, your browser will not know, that image is changed, as the name of the image is same, with same size. so it will not request the image from the server next time, and loads the image from the history (temp internet files folder on client pc). this will happen until the image/content is not expired. (you can set this timeout value in <% Register ...> Tag on the aspx page )
to avoid that just put the username or random number before/after the image name i.e. <username>image.jpg
or use the direct memory binding instead of file base assignment.

The same question you asked previously also... and you got some asnwers also... then why are you starting a new thread with the same question ? wait for someone to reply... and dont think that it is 2-3 pages old, so nobody will answer...

OK, if you want to be rude...

You TRAIN people where you work, but you can't work out these simple questions, you post them here over and over and when the person who has ALREADY answered you, also points out that you're asking repeatedly, you're rude to him as if you EXPECT an answer, as if it's your RIGHT that we do your work for you, so that you can be paid more than you're worth while simultaneously taking work away from the people with actual dev skills, the very people you rely on to do your work for you ? What the hell is wrong with you ?

Brother, you'd do well to heed your own advice. The rules for asking questions here are clearly posted; what you hope to achieve by ignoring them is hard to fathom.

hello,
i have created an application who's platform are asp.net1.1,windows XP,Access 2002 and its working fine in my PC.
When i aploaded it on a server who's platform is .NET Framework 2.0,windows server 2003,Access 2003 and when i am browsing a page who has database connectivity it throws an error as 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0' provider is not registered on the local machine".
I tried installing latest MDAC on the server but still showing the same problem.
Thank you.

So, after several days, you still can't make this work ? I bet your client is very happy with their choice of provider. Did you bother doing the things that people suggested the last time you asked this ? If you did, you should say so here, b/c people are just going to suggest the same things otherwise.

I have this reg expression on javascript that checks for poboxes. how can I chnage it to map only for starting string and not anyqwhere on the string b/c if address is seAPOrt then it treats as a po box:
var poboxPattern = new RegExp("(APO|A\.P\.O\.|A P O|FPO|F\.P\.O\.|F P O|POB|P\.O\.B\.|POBOX|P\.O\.BOX|PO BOX|P O BOX|P\.O\. BOX|POST OFFICE)");
Please help
|
|
|
|
|
Put ^ at the start of the pattern to match the start of the string.
Despite everything, the person most likely to be fooling you next is yourself.

thank you. excellent. how can that be con verted in c#?

The string literal actually looks exactly the same.
In the Javascript you need to escape the backslash characters with a backslash character:
var poboxPattern = new RegExp("^(APO|A\\.P\\.O\\.|A P O|FPO|F\\.P\\.O\\.|F P O|POB|P\\.O\\.B\\.|POBOX|P\\.O\\.BOX|PO BOX|P O BOX|P\\.O\\. BOX|POST OFFICE)");
In C#:
RegEx postboxExpression = new RegEx("^(APO|A\\.P\\.O\\.|A P O|FPO|F\\.P\\.O\\.|F P O|POB|P\\.O\\.B\\.|POBOX|P\\.O\\.BOX|PO BOX|P O BOX|P\\.O\\. BOX|POST OFFICE)");
However, in C# you can also use a @ delimited string so that you don't need to escape the backslashes:
RegEx postboxExpression = new RegEx(@"^(APO|A\.P\.O\.|A P O|FPO|F\.P\.O\.|F P O|POB|P\.O\.B\.|POBOX|P\.O\.BOX|PO BOX|P O BOX|P\.O\. BOX|POST OFFICE)");
Despite everything, the person most likely to be fooling you next is yourself.

Hi there! I have an issue and I hope I can get some advice how I can fix this. Here is my issue:
I am creating a web site, and on one page, I have a gridview. I want the gridview to be populated from a code from the Page_Load method, actually a query according to the username, so I can retrieve the data what I need for the logged user and populate in the gridview. Is it possible to do that? I am using VS2005. Thx ahead, Laziale
