Sometimes before you post, go to google and check how the other people solved the problem, you might find that there are a lot of people who had a problem and solution.
check this
Go to the Solution Explorer in Visual Studio, click on the web site application, hit 'F4' key to bring up the application's property window. In this property window, set 'Use Dynamic Port' to 'False', and you will be able to set the Port number to a number other than 1277.
See this MSDN document:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms178109(VS.80).aspx[^]
or
Step 1: Select the “Tools->External Tools” menu option in VS or Visual Web Developer. This will allow you to configure and add new menu items to your Tools menu.
Step 2: Click the “Add” button to add a new external tool menu item. Name it “WebServer on Port 8010” (or anything else you want).
Step 3: For the “Command” textbox setting enter this value: C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\WebD ev.WebServer.EXE (note: this points to the web-server that VS usually automatically runs).
Step 4: For the “Arguments” textbox setting enter this value: /port:8010 /path:$(ProjectDir) (or any port you like)
Step 5: Select the “Use Output Window” checkbox (this will prevent the command-shell window from popping up.
Once you hit apply and ok you will now have a new menu item in your “Tools” menu called “WebServer on Port 8010”. You can now select any web project in your solution and then choose this menu option to launch a web-server that has a root site on port 8010 (or whatever other port you want) for the project.
You can then connect to this site in a browser by simply saying http://localhost:8010/. All root based references will work fine.
Step 6: The last step is to configure your web project to automatically reference this web-server when you run or debug a site instead of launching the built-in web-server itself. To-do this, select your web-project in the solution explorer, right click and select “property pages”. Select the “start options” setting on the left, and under server change the radio button value from the default (which is use built-in webserver) to instead be “Use custom server”. Then set the Base URL value to be: http://localhost:8010/
Obviously I don't know if this is the problem you had but definitely it is something similar, essentially the problem should be that the same port used by your Development Server is not available because it is already used by another web server.

Hi, thanks for looking
Im using ntier datasets in vs2008: Windows client - webservice - DAL with dataset
I have a save method in webservice as well as in DAL, they take a dataset as a parameter byref
The problem is with new rows, the primary key is an autoincrement column
When i send the changes to the webservice, i cant merge the result with my client dataset because ill get duplicated rows for the added rows
I know i could do something like this once i get a response from the save method in the windows client:
Find all added rows in client dataset for each datatable, delete them, merge the client dataset with the dataset returned from the webservice and call acceptchanges. Tha works fine, the thing is that ill be using this in many forms and also the dataset contains like 6 tables that are being updated in the webservice, there must be any other way to do it.
If i use the individual tableadapters and set the acceptchangesduringupdate=false, IT WORKS, since the dataset will keep the original autogenerated id and the real autogenerated id by the DB
I wouldnt like to use individual tableadapter, since i am updating like 6 tables at once with the tableadaptermanager, and saving them with individual tableadapter will be a real pain
I already tryed sing something like this (but doesnt work):
Dim ta As New dsXTableAdapters.TableAdapterManager
ta.XTableAdapter = New dsXTableAdapters.XTableAdapter
ta.XTableAdapter.Adapter.AcceptChangesDuringUpdate = False
Also tryed capturing the rowupdated event of the adapter (And didnt work either):
Private Sub _adapter_RowUpdated(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Data.SqlClient.SqlRowUpdatedEventArgs) Handles _adapter.RowUpdated
If e.StatementType = StatementType.Insert Then
e.Status = UpdateStatus.SkipCurrentRow
End If
End Sub
Any suggestions??

Hi ,
I am creating template field at runtime for detailsview . its working fine in view mode . but in edit mode nothing is showing in that field .
TemplateField Field2 = new TemplateField();
Field2.HeaderText = "ClusterCode";
Field2.ItemTemplate = new AddTemplateToDetailsView (ListItemType.Item, "c_cluster_code");
DetailsView1.Fields.Add(Field2);
public class AddTemplateToDetailsView : ITemplate
{
ListItemType _type;
string _colName;
public AddTemplateToGridView(ListItemType type, string colname)
{
_type = type;
_colName = colname;
}
void ITemplate.InstantiateIn(System.Web.UI.Control container)
{
switch (_type)
{
case ListItemType.Item:
DropDownList ht = new DropDownList();
ht.DataBinding += new EventHandler(ht_DataBinding);
container.Controls.Add(ht);
break;
}
}
void ht_DataBinding(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
DropDownList lnk = (DropDownList)sender;
DataTable dt = SqlHelper.ExecuteDataset(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["GoGreenVDCConnectionString"].ConnectionString,CommandType.Text,"select c_code,c_name from cluster_mst where n_deleted = 0" ).Tables[0] ;
foreach (DataRow Row in dt.Rows)
{
lnk.Items.Add(new ListItem(Row[1].ToString().Trim(), Row[0].ToString().Trim()));
}
string str = lnk.NamingContainer.ToString() ;
DetailsView container = (DetailsView)lnk.NamingContainer;
lnk.SelectedValue = ((DataRowView)container.DataItem)["c_cluster_code"].ToString();
}
}

Do you know anything about ASP.NET ? What is it ? What does it do ? What are it's limitations ? This is a question that tells me you don't know much and need a basic book. Perhaps I will change my mind if you ask something more specific, but that's what I think right now.

Hi
I am creating a social community & for that i need help in two things:
1)I have database containing questions. I want these question to appear dynamically on pop-up window(like MSN Messenger pop-up window appears "ABC is online now"). And then save user selectable answer in database.
2)chatting with friends on community as on happens facebook and orkut.
Thanx in advance.
Waiting for sample code OR video illustrating answers of post.

chatting requires AJAX. Questions and answers require a database.

Hi Everyone.
I'm a newbie to ASP.NET and have just started experimenting CSS.
I have set CSS to format some navigational hyperlinks in the web page which works very nicely. Now I have added a SiteMapPath control to the top of my master page, and it has taken on my hyperlink properties which is not good...
Is there a way I can format one set of hyperlinks one way, and the other another???
Thanks in advance...

look the css are designed for giving any stable form you want in web site and as you are saying you designed the site css first and then add the hyperlink control for sitemap.
what it exactly does is change the position of predefined component and so you really really needs to do is to redefine and redesign your css components.

Hi,
I have a control where I calculate the height property from javascript and set that accordingly. My problem is that the control is embedded in a updatepanel which updates every second. On updating, the default height value of the control is used.
How do I make the height value calculated from javascript persistent so that asp.net uses it on postback.
Thanks
Mike

There are several ways you can handle this. Let me give you two sets
1. When you calculate the height of control, hold to the value in hidden field. Then on post back after you done what ever you need to do, set the control height based on the hidden field value. This will always match to your last calculation.
2. You can use Sys.WebForms.EndRequestEventArgs . This event will get fired at the end of updatepanel successful update. There you can set the control size. see here[^]

What else can I say. Make sure the path is correct.
prasadbuddhika wrote: as i know the path to web service is stored in the web.config in web application,isn't it ,
What do you mean it is stored in web.config? There is nothing that prevents you from storing it in web.config, in fact it may be good idea as it will be very easy to change it.
prasadbuddhika wrote: if not what is the solution for my problem
The solution is to provide the correct url to your web service. Where you want to set is up to you.

tahnx, when i create the web reference using the IDE it writes to the web.config (a key/value pair)the url, then do i have to explicitly say
System.Configuration.ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["myServiceUrl"];
or does it takes it automatially

this [^] should help.
