Nested master pages are overkill for this situation. Just build the menu as necessary. Possibly use divs to contain the menus and show/hide as necessary.

Assuming that the set of menus are defined by the user type, you could build .js files with static menus per user type. Include the appropriate .js file dynamically according to the user.
Alternately, include the .js files in the correct set of pages with a particular menu level.

For that matter what is the use of the ASP.NET page, it can all be done with JavaScript.

I had a drop down list and populating with installed printer.
On server/development pc its giving list.
But when i host in IIS and access it from remote it giving server/host printer list.
Is there a way by which i can get client side printer list.
I want to print a label on printer selected by client.
Regards

Without looking at your code but looking at your post, it is clear that the code for populating that printer drop down is written at server side. So it would NEVER show you the client's list of printers, it will show you the list of printers on the server.
It is important that you understand this fundamental concept.
To achieve what you need - you will have to write some client side scripting or ActiveX - though I am not sure that can be achieved since the browser may not be allowed to have access to the client's resources through script.
Generally, it is the end user's responsibility (privilege?) to select the printer he wants to use. You can put out some advise for the user to select a correct printer.
Hope this helps.

Hello,
I am wondering how I can set the LoginUrl property of the Forms Authentication programmatically ? So far I see, i need to hard code this value in web.config file. But that is a problem. I need to use absolute SSL url for login url like,
"https://myDomain.com/Login.aspx" if the application is hosted in production server. If it is running from localhost, then this property value should be "/Login.aspx". Of course, most of the developers are using SSL for login page, so I hope there should be a solution to this problem. Would anyone tell me how ?
I tried to set
if(Request.IsLocal)
FormsAuthentication.LoginUrl = "https://myDomain.com/Login.aspx" ;
in Global.asax file's Application_Start event, but I see that, FormsAuthentication.LoginUrl is a readonly property, so above try wont work. Anyother way ?

Hi, I am trying to add an elipsis for some text inside a div using css.
for example,
<div style="???????">
WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW
</div>
What I want is for the end result to look like: WWWWWW...
Or at least just cut off without the ....
The div is inside a td which stretches out when the text is too long, and making the td or div a fixed width is not an option.
How can I do this?
Thanks!
|
|
|
|
|
For width issue, you can set overflow property to hidden in style attribute.
<div id="myDiv" style="overflow:hidden; height:20px; width:200px;"><br />
Some Long Text.<br />
</div>
If you wish to trim the text, use some javascript function on page load at client side.
function Trim(id, len) {
document.getElementById(id).innerHTML = document.getElementById(id).innerHTML.substring(0, len) + "...";
}
Hope this will help.

Hi,
I've just done a basic "survey" web page which lists a number of questions for users to fill in and submit - each survey is then saved to a SQL database in the "Survey" table.
At the moment, the questions are multiple choice, so the answers are yes/no, or strings of text. One of the question's answers is some 30 characters long and virtually all the answers can be chosen from DropDownList controls.
It all works fine as it it is but as you can imagine, while I can store the strings of text in each record it seems that a more efficient way would be to store the index of the choice from the DropDownList so I'd be able to use INTs instead of NTEXT.
My problem is this: should I implement a table for each question on the database consisting of a string and int value and bind the web controls on page load; or should I have some sort of enum type for each question with a DropDownList. If the latter, how can I associate a string of text with an int? I can't create a set of enums containing text can I?
Thanks for any help

Consider a general table called, "Survey", in this table you could store an XML file which would have both your questions and your values of drop down boxes. You could then create another table called "SurveyResults" which would store the results of your survey in an XML file.
By using a design like this, you could have vastly different surverys and not have to change your storage structure.
Something to think about.

I think you need to work on the database design first before you tackle the front end. Like you said - create a table with list of questions. Create another table with list of possible answers per question. This will give you Id(s) to work with for question and answer.
About the dropdowns,you have to display the data in the dropdowns, so that needs to be transported to the browser. While writing back to the server, you can use the selected id(s) of the answers.
This way you can use bound controls as well.
Hope this helps.

In a Microsoft Word-document. There's various formats of that file-specification, meaning that you'd have to specify which version of Word you're going to target.
In general, you'd open the file (VSTO might be useful there), find your tag and replace it. As a side-remark, the signature wouldn't be valid here - a picture can easily be copied, and it's not equal to a paper-signature.

I am getting "Microsoft JScript runtime error: Object required" on "CallServerMethod".
display() function is called on onblur event of TextBox.
function display() {
var context = new Object();
CallServerMethod(document.getElementById("ctlLogin").value, context);
}

The problem is due to the accessing an object before its fully loaded.
For jQuery, try using
$(document).ready(function(){--- jQuery functions go here ----});
Please let me know, if you still face the problem.

Sir,
I am working on an e-commerce project using ASP.Net and C#.Net (Visual Studio 2005-Windows XP).
I am facing problems in the login module. I created the login accounts using the roles and users in the ASP.Net Website Administration Tool. The login module is working fine when I test the website within the Visual Studio. I mean the login form is working properly under the Development Server integrated in the Visual Studio. What I want is to make this work properly under IIS (i.e. the Production Server). When I deployed the project to the IIS, the login form with the login control is displayed, but cannot login and gives a login failed message. I posted this problem in few forums along with the source code of the login module only. But nobody cared in downloading my source code. I have searched about this issue in Google and they are providing good tutorial links to solve this issue. Even after reading those I couldn’t solve this as I am new to Web Development. I need help from experts on this. Can you please provide me a sample source code with the web.config and also a description of the major steps in configuring IIS to support the role based login?
I had gone through the following titles under google
"Always set the "applicationName" property when configuring ASP.NET 2.0 Membership and other Providers"
I would like you to see the following link which I tried. I think this will help you to help me.

Thanks in Advance.

Have you deployed the app_code directory to your production environment? This is where the membership datebase is stored.
Alternatively you can create the database in SqlServer like this:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/x28wfk74.aspx[^]
Which will let you store users in a proper database. If you go down this route make sure you change your web.config to point to the external DB.

I don't have an app_code directory in the production environment. But I have an App_Data directory in the production environment. What to do?

My new application needs export records from gridview to Excel file, which I have done already. But when I tried editing the same excel file, it saves a new folder and css stylings in excel to the new folder.
I need to import the exported excel file with some changes in data to the application.
But I found that, while saving for export it saves as web compatible excel file. I want to save the file as plain excel file, like the one Microsft Report Control exports.
Any help and suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Hello,
I have been using regular ASP.NET Web Services for a long time, and now I realize that, WCF is replacing the old ASP.NET Web Services. Fine, I wanted to learn WCF, but now, I see, i have bunch of choices about services like,
WCF Service,
RIA Service,
WCF Data Service,
ADO.NET Data Service
Domain Service Class
AJAX Enabled WCF Service
and also the regular Web Service
So, which service learning is of worth investment of time ?
