hi guys,
I was wondering, how you could create web pages on the fly and then include them in your site. I'm thinking along the lines of a CMS or a portal where a page designer has the rights to design a page that inherits from the global master page(s). This new page is then incorporated in to the site.
Its the web page design that is giving me the headache, is it a series of templated webpages filled with webparts? doubt it.
Many thanks

Well you can use File and StreamWriter to create a new page on fly.
Have a nice day.

ASP.NET pages are always created on the fly. The aspx markup code is parsed into an object tree, which is then rendered into an html page. To make a page contain different contents, just put it in the object tree, and let it be rendered into a page.
So, creating extra pages is not needed at all. You can have a single page that displays contents that it gets from a file, a database, or anywhere you like.

I think he/she is talking about named pages (e.g. do-something-page.aspx, bmw-for-sale.aspx)
In which case it will depend on exactly what you want to do. You can obivously create new pages like previously stated (using a stream writer object), but you will more than likely need to save some data in a db to help with creating the page by reusing replicated code.
Now, if you need the newly created page to contain events and such, you will either need to write these events in script tags on the aspx page itself, or create a new code behind file that possibly inherits from a base page with some built in functionality.
Your going to have to map out what suits your needs first.
If you compile your pages into dll's you are going to be limited to some extent what you can do on the fly an which route you take.

I'd imagine the obvious way is to have your documents as XML and use an XSLT to turn the data into a portion of a web page that displays it.

You can create an excel file by either using a CSV style or tables. The easiest route would be to store the table information (html that is built on the fly) into a (string) then you could just write this string to a file with a .xls extension.
If you use the html method, it should be valid HTML just like on your page with proper open / closing tags.

I setup a local server using IIS and ASP.NET on windows xp (connected on our company's network). From that unit, i can open my ASP.NET pages, but when i tried to open it on other computer/laptop which is connected also on the network, it shows... cannot display the webpage. i'm entering the "http://IP:PORT/xx" to open it on the other pc.
Shall I edit the Authentication/Authorization?
please help...

hi,
it s not the fault in authentication or authorization.
You have to give access to the users through the network connection.
first go to network connection.
Then open the properties.
You have to select the TCP/IP option.
in that option select advanced and you have to check the http web server for
accessing the web.

Hi all,
I have one "aspx" page and one "usercontrol(ascx)" page.In the usercontrol page i have one HTML table which i use to show data when the usercontrol is loaded.I'm loading the data into the table using a javasript which is registered in the page load of the usercontrol.
In the javascript i'm now referring the Html table as "document.all(""html_cart"").insertRow();"
But when the javascript is executed i'm getting the error
"document.all().insertrow(); is null or not an object"
I even tried with "document.form[0].Usercontrolname_html_cart.insertRow();"
where Usercontrolname is the name for
the usercontrol page.I used this "Usercontrolname1_html_cart", bcoz in the viewsource i saw that the usercontrol is referred as Usrcontrolname1.
Please any one suggest the correct method to refer the html table in the javascript, so that i can add rows and data into the rows
Thank you in advance
Regards,
Sathya

You should create a variable and make it's value the ClientID property of the table control. Then you'll always have the client side Id of the table. Assuming it needs to be a server control at all.

Hi Graus,
Thanks for the immediate reply Grauss.
In the view source i found the name which aspx page refers to the usercontrol .So i hardcoded the name in the referring session "document.forms[0].Usercontrolname_html_cart.insertRow();"
but still its not working. I tried with the alternative " document.all(""html_cart"").insertRow(); Even this is not working.
One more thing is that im not dragging and droping the usercontrol in the aspx page . Im using another method to load the usercontrol when the applications starts.
Please suggest alternate methods to make it working.
with regards

Hello to every One,
i'm using database in my web form for login and user purpose.. due to some reasons i have to format my pc.
after that when i again re-install sql server 2000 and visual studio7 i'm unable to connecto to the database in the following line:
Protected sqlconnection1 As SqlConnection = New SqlConnection("data source=.;initial catalog=daccrop;persist security info=False;user id=dac1605;pwd=dac1605;workstation id=self;packet size=4096")
Actually i have changed the server and computer name in my new installation i.e from "DAC_147_347" to "garg" and again i don't remember how the authentication was done i.e windows or by sql server login. Following is the modified coding for connecting to database..
Protected sqlconnection1 As SqlConnection = New SqlConnection("data source=GARG;initial catalog=dac1605;integrated security=SSPI;persist security info=False;workstation id=GARG;packet size=4096")
This is still not working..
suggest me how should i know the setting done in sql server and after knowing how should i implement it.
The Error Message shown is:
"SQL server does not exist or access is denied"
Thank You..

Check if the database exists and also check if you have access. Normally you have administrator access on your local machine using windows logon credentials, so the following connectionstring should work.
"Data Source=localhost;Initial Catalog=dac1605;Integrated Security=SSPI"
