I would like to return the data to the GUI from the windows service.
1- Should the GUI call WCF which gets the data from window service?
OR
2- Should the GUI just call the windows service to get the data?
Thanks

The windows service shouldn't return the data, it should store the data locally, and send out a system-wide message that new data is available. If a desktop application is running that knows about the message, it can then load the data from the local source.

Thanks

How can somebody be banned or at least be filtered out?

This is an inappropriate question. He'll get better, but the question is whether or not we'll all live to see it. There's no reason to ban him, and foltering users in a programming forum is a bad idea.

There is a fully working .net windows application which uses the background worker process in the form.
Using my new silverlight 4 application, I now would like to make it use the functionalities as the application in the winform i.e. background worker, etc...
Question:
As I am using the wcf to retrieve data and pass to the silverlight page, how/where do I use the background worker process? Do I use it in the service or in the silverlight page?
Thanks

Probably depeneds on what the background was doing in the windows forms application.
Was it something to do with the UI - it will go into the Silverlight UI.
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's too late to stop reading it.

yes, it is to do with the UI.

This code is inthe winiform
private void BGworker_ProgressChanged(object sender, ProgressChangedEventArgs e)
{
this.Refresh();
}
How can the this.refresh be translated to be placed inside the silverlight page?
Thanks

If you are retrieving the data using WCF, then you are already refreshing the data asynchronously. This renders the need to read the data in using a background worker, moot - after all, your UI will still be responsive while the data is being fetched.

You mean there is no need to use the backgroundworker?

Not if you are already retrieving the data asynchronously (which you are using RIA services). As a test, write a simple data method to return a single integer from the server side but give it a delay of one minute before it returns. When you call this method, your UI will still remain responsive.

Hi,
I'm trying to write a custom Treeview in WPF where child items are linked to their parents by lines.
It's hard to explain, but I'm basically trying to make a custom version of the this treeview so that our designer can customise it as required:
Is there an easy way of doing this? So far I've been hacking away at it and haven't got very far.
Thanks

The stock WPF treeview doesn't support lines. If you google WPF treeview lines, you'll get some links on how to add it... but, the examples are pretty buggy & 1/2 a$$ed, but they are a good foundation to build upon. I had to do this a while ago too. I can't share the code though because its copyrighted I did build off the sample code that I found and fixed all the bugs and fleshed out the implementation though.

I have built a silverlight web site using Expression Blend 3. The site always displays the default "B"lend icon on the IE tab [link^]. Replacing the icon file "favicon.ico" does not make any difference. Neither does adding the following code to the Head of "default.html" do anything:
<LINK REL="SHORTCUT ICON" HREF="http://www.entribute.com/favicon.ico"></LINK>

that is normal because you use the 2008 version of Visual Studio!
and silverlight 4 it is working with the 2010 version!!!

I think you dont know that which vesion is compatible with VS 2008.

I think he does. Silverlight 4 is not compatible with VS 2008; it is only available with VS2010. If you go here[^] you can download the relevant items that you need. If you'd gone to this page first, you could have saved yourself a real head scratching.

VS2008 does not support Silverlight 4.
Install Silverlight 3 or move to VS2010.

Sorry, Silverlight 4 and up versions will not run on VS2008.
One has to upgrade to VS2010 for it.
